Last week, Florida and local Bon Vivant -Ican'tstayaway(in his car) and myself got the"UP AGAINST THE WALL M......F....!!!!" treatment from the local FPs.
They searched all we had and had there hands on my $400 camera, cell, 50K colones, CC, misc condoms, viagra, among other unmentionables. Unbelievably, all was returned!
The next night, ICSA and I figured we would cab it back to where we like late night cheap sex to avoid this scene repeating. Just as we were getting into a cab....flashing lights and a repeat of the "Up against the wall". Same deal...They didn't try to shake us down after they did a complete search.
Of course, one J and everything I own would be theirs. Take a lesson boys.

What is happening to CR and all we once loved about it. Sign of the times. I still love it there but some of this BS against the people who help drive the economy has got to stop.

Funny, Florida didn't tell me this the other night on the phone. He probably knows I'm just looking for an excuse not to return to CR. My next trip will be to DR over Labor Day and then to MDE over Thanksgiving, so CR can kiss my ass till these shake downs stop. He did tell me about going over to Molino Rojo. Where exactly did this happen Scuba?

The first night , we were stopped 2 blocks from M Rojo in the car.
They searched each of us and the vehicle. Nothing to find.

The last night we were waiting for a taxi on the sidewalk right outside M Rojo. Different sets of cops. The taxi waited for us the second night, good taxi.

They figure Gringos in that area at night may be buying or carrying drugs and they will score a bribe - which didn't happen with us.

I have been stopped at random 4 times b4 and been through many road blocks and only once paid when I didn't have my wallet with me but did have my passport. 9k colon, all the cash I had with me.

So now the advice it not only to take taxis to avoid thieves but to scurry to and from the taxi b4 you are delayed by SJ finest.

I would say to avoid the M. Rojo area....

I drive to and from SL about five night a week and have never been pulled over. I avoid the main streets and likely gringo areas.

Yes , I have driven from the DR to Sabana at night a few hundred times being only stopped once in Paseo Colon . I have hit the tansit check on 11th street a few times going to the DR.

B4 that I drove from the DR to Laruca the back way (pass the Ford Dealer) and was never stopped.

I think these cops see 2 or 3 Gringos and get happy feet. I guess the lesson is if you are gonna be in low rent areas , DON'T let them find anything on you.

After they searched us the first night, they saw us walking from place to place and didn't bother us.

Two minor details. No Three .

Florida was sitting shotgun and had his window rolled down. This is probably not common in that area. I know that is something LE in the states look for at night.
They figure people that have the windows rolled down at night are more likely to be "smoking" or..... Or I am over thinking the situation.

Two. When the officer asked me for my license and passport he was reading my passport wrong, probably on purpose. My entrance stamp was for the beginning of March and permission for 90 days. He told me it was for 30 days . I responded by forcing my car keys in his hand and demanding him to impound the vehicle and take me to the police station. I really was "with an attitude" at this point. Normally I am more relaxed and they realize they are wasting their time. I figured he was looking for some cash and I wasn't playing.

3. I am so proud of my Spanish that I have gathered that I was talking to him in espanol. This is always a mistake , at customs in Colombia, and with the local police. Always before I have apoligized and said, " I'm sorry my Spanish is bad." I believe they prey more on people they can communicate with.
