sorry, but why the heck WOULDN'T it work?

I can't stand spending that kind of money on a useless accessory, but, if that's your thing, I can't imagine why it wouldn't work...

I mean it's an electronic device... It's not like CR doesn't have electricity... They even have the same voltage/current that we do...

If you load everything you might want to read before leaving home then it will work in Costa Rica. If you want to download new material while in Costa Rica then the wireless whispernet probably won't work, but you could use a computer to download and then upload to your kindle with a usb cable.

That's nice, be on the board for about 5 min, ask stupid questions, and then insult people...

Asking whether the kindle would work in CR is STUPID... at least I didn't just blurt that out before.

It's like asking if your flashlight will work.

===============================================

why would asking the question about if a kindle would work while in costa rica.. a place I travel to on a regular basis, a electronic gadget that uses WIFI access.. to download books be a stupid question??

especially if it could somehow be IP restricted. i have had this happen with watching online content . the ip is detected and does not allow me to access the content. I was wondering if someone that has a kindle and uses it in costa rica without any modifications.

how can you compare this to a flashlight??? :? :? :?

now Skink responded to the question intelligently. while you just blurted out verbage. that made no sense. this is why i asked if there was some award given to the most posts.. i thought maybe you were trying to win the grand prize.

stop trying to blurt out verbal chewing gum.. and get a life.

Lorenzo

PS. did you find a job yet? I think your bored

pps. you know what is STUPID.. is falling in love with one of your massage girls :D :D :D

Yeah, that does happen in CR with certain apps I have noticed. Pisses me off. I just VPN back but I doubt that is an option on a Kindle. I don't know much about them and how they get content loaded into them but if it is a straight WiFi off the device itself I can see where Amazon might block access if they have registration information saying you live in the US but are now suddenly accessing it from CR.

I wonder if that could happen with a IP enabled flashlight!

OK, lets see if I got this straight...

Your original question was: does the kindle work?

The answer: yes, it's an electronic device, it works...

You MEANT: does the wifi capability of downloading e-books in the kindle work?

now, had you asked THAT question, my answer would have been different.

Had you THOUGHT about your question, you would have come up with the simple solution that skink answered. i.e. that even if you can't download wifi, you can download to USB and voila.

Had you asked the question properly, I might not have answered at all, or I might have answered something along the lines that skink answered, and perhaps my answer would have been more useful.

HOWEVER, you didn't, you asked a question in a STUPID way, that did not let anyone know what you REALLY wanted to know.

Now... personally attacking a long time member of this board, because you don't like his answer is childish. Further attacking him, for no reason other than you can't control yourself is even more childish.

As for my answer on thinking the kindle is a useless accessory, to me it is. I have been downloading ebooks for over 10 years. I read them on my pda, computer, cell phone. I don't see a reason to spend $300 on a device that is superfluous.

I posted MY opinion on the device.

Now, back to your question: Does the kindle work... DUH! yes it works anywhere in the world, as long as you have batteries.

Now the REAL question: Can I download ebooks, using wifi on my kindle when I'm in CR...

Well, honestly, I don't know. I don't own one, and wouldn't have answered, and would have kept my mouth shut.

Had you not bothered to personally attack me, I would have left the thread alone.

But no, you're an ass, and decided to personally attack me.

As to your personal attacks on me, I will answer them simply:
I was never unemployed, I was ABOUT to be, and I found a SUBSTANTIALLY better contract close to home.

I have REPEATEDLY admitted that falling for the girl was a mistake. When I DID fall for her she had worked for an MP for 3 days; and yes, I do know this for a fact. It is the one and only time in over 20 years of mongering that I have stepped over the line, and it will, hopefully be the last.
SHE IS AN MP GIRL NOW... BFD. I'm over that.

I have a very full life, it just happens to include this board, as I have MANY friends on this board. This board has given me a lot of very useful information, and given me several friends. I spend time on it, and post on it as a way of giving back to the people on the board, and a way of finding out more about CR when I'm not there.

Now, if you want to continue your personal attacks on me, go right ahead with your childish attacks. I'm done with you.

===============================================

am i missing something? the original question stated above was "do we have any kindle users on this board"

i see the logic behind that question. it was targeted toward current kindle users.. and the question was asked in a way that makes sense that current kindle owners would know if there was a problem using this device in costa rica.

but you decided to throw in your point of view which had nothing to do with the original question.

:? :? :? :? :? :? :? :?

skink made a comment that reflected the current question.

If Quickbluefox asked:

Hi Guys

do we have any XM or SIRUS users on this board??

I would like get this baby for my next trip to costa rica but
since i am out of the country would i be restricted??

===============================================

i am not a XM or SIRUS user so i would have not commented on the question... aside from saying its a stupid question.

am i drinking too many imperials.

Danielson,

That is an incorrect analogy.

XM and Sirius's sole purpose is to receive signals and play the music live off the satellite.

The Kindle's MAIN purpose is as an ebook reader.

A more correct analogy would be if he had asked if his ipod worked.

An ipod is a music player, you download music, just like the kindle downloads books.

You use a service, just like the kindle does, you use itunes... *yeah, I know you can do it in MANY other ways, I'm making the analogy here*

The IPOD will still work in CR., WHILE THE SERVICE MIGHT NOT.

He asked if the KINDLE would work, not if he could download.

If anyone had come on the board and asked if an ipod would work, you'd all laugh at him.

The question would be better asked and phrased:
Can you download from itunes in CR to my ipod...

or

Can you download iphone apps, NOT does my iphone work. if you asked does my iphone work, people would assume you meant the phone part, NOT the apps...

http://librivox.org/ is a link which will stop the dribble.....the best books ever written are on this web site; there is no fee; and there are no IP blocks world wide that I am aware of.

Suggest people download Candide and get an understanding.....

that is all.....

PS: You can't stream NetFlix.com movies from CR. Copyright propblems so the IP IS BLOCKED as it's id'd as coming from Costa Rica.....
