and what if any effect will this have on CR pricing? Cuban pricing will obviously go way up, and I have definitely changed my plans to include one more trip to Cuba before the gates come down and the barbarians storm in.

What do you guys think? Will this significantly affect the mongering population to places like CR and DR? With Cuba so close, and with the initial deals to be had (they won't last long) will there be a gravitation of Americans (and perhaps some of the latinas, no visas needed) to Cuba?

I must admit, with some embarassment, to my American brothers, that I'm sad to see this happen, because the prices are kept low by virtue of the absence of Americans there. And the girls are fantastic.

Or will it not happen at all just yet? opinions?

My vote is it wont happen until they have little to no chance left. I just cant see it happening until at LEAST the Castros are gone; to at least save face to everything they have accomplished.

that's what I thought too. For years. That being said, there's an active lobby in the US right now using the "failed policy" propaganda along with the "introducing them to democracy and USD" will do what the other policy didn't do.

All BS, of course, with a bunch of business interests standing behind and supporting the lifting of the ban. I guess that developers have seen that resolve is getting soft and that big $$ are available now if they can seize the moment. I'm sure the back channels have been burning.

I for one can't wait for the doors to open. I would have gone already but just haven't had the balls to chance it. It will only be a 1 hour flight from Tampa. I don't think we will have that much of an effect on the girls, pricing might reach the $50. mark if the tipping gets out of hand as it has in CR. God forbid will ever hear that word Cien.

Sorry Lionking but the two words, Gringo and cien just go together. :? :( . Toooo many gringos just can not be happy if they are not throwing their money away trying to impress chicas. And no matter where it is, if a lot of gringos start showing up, very soon the chicas will learn "cien"  All it takes is one guy saying "AHHH, babi you are worth more than that! Here, take this "cien". Next guy to come along, she remembers "I am worth cien" and asks for it . Just a sad fact of life!!! And if you think this type of thing won't or don't happen, I just talked to a guy who was in Cuba last month and he recounted how he had done this exact thing. He gave a Cubana an extra $70 because "she was worth it"

It's not a lifting of the embargo just yet but Obama's headed down that path:

Quote:
Obama to ease Cuba restrictions on travel, money
2 hours ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama intends to lift the U.S. ban on family members traveling to Cuba and remittances to the island, two senior administration officials said Saturday.

Obama will announce the policy change before this month's Summit of the Americas in Trinidad and Tobago, according to the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the announcement had not yet been made.

The move would fulfill a pledge Obama made during the presidential campaign and could signal a new openness with the communist nation.

The Wall Street Journal first reported the development on Friday.

Democrats in Congress are also moving to loosen restrictions on family travel to Cuba, but Obama plans to use presidential powers to ease the rules on his own.

The president does not intend to call for lifting the decades-long trade embargo against Cuba, which would require congressional approval, the newspaper report said.

During the presidential campaign, Obama pledged to allow unlimited family travel and remittances to Cuba. "It's time to let Cuban-Americans see their mothers and fathers, their sisters and their brothers," he said in a speech last May in Miami. "It's time to let Cuban-American money make their families less dependent on the Castro regime."

The rules will affect an estimated 1.5 million Americans who have relatives in Cuba, the Journal said.

Associated Press writers Jennifer Loven and Mark S. Smith contributed to this story from Strasbourg, France.

cuban girls also ask for $100 but come off it easily $60-$80 being the norm, but you save on accomidations.the place i stay(house particular)costs $25/night.usually that money is just for 1 pop but she will leave her # and usually you can take them out the next day to the beach or pool or and have a tln for the same money.some night clubs charge $10 admission, feed you and you drink for free.lots of girls and mostly salsa music.lots of fun.
a mongering tip for any americans-change your money to canadian or euros before going to cuba because there is an extra tariff on u.s. currency.
it is safe for the most part and cuban people do like americans

Many of my friends tell me Cuba is off the hook. A buddy of mine was in town briefly from Mexica who was just raving about the place and the women...

I doubt much will change here, except an increase in crime and prices.

The flood gates will open up and things are going to get crazy in Cuba!

It will eventually suck so time to go is now.

That's a dam shame paying $60 to $80. I was hoping on $25. for the hour. How do you find the house particulars? I may try a small trip over labor Day. Thanks for the tip on money, I'll have to get canadian before going.

LK, just do a search under casa particular and you will find several sites. Many will arrange with a local driver to get you at the airport.

casaparticular.info is just one of several sites that has listings. Do a search and you will find them. Look over several sites.

Do NOT stay in a hotel. Cuban women are often barred from entry into hotels unless you bribe security, and the women will often rush out. Stay in a casa particular, which is cheaper and more comfortable anyway. Be very choosy. many casa particular just offer rooms in the family home. Some are independent apartments or have private entrances. You want one of these. Also, reservations can at times (not usually, but sometimes) be sketchy, because you cannot reserve with a credit card. I f someone doesn't show up or changes their mind the casa owner gets screwed, because they have no security, so sometimes if someone shows up they will take cash in hand in preference to honouring your reservation. have some backups listed, just in case. Casa particular owners will usually ask for all the cash up front (again, just in case you chnage your mind) Don't pay it all. Pay day by day, or at most a couple of days, in case you're not happy with the place you have.

Look for a place near La Rampa or the University in Vedado, or in Old Havana. This is where you will find the chicas. The places generally tend to be nicer in vedado, but be aware that you might be taking cab rides back and forth to downtown if you're of a mind to go there. Cabs are plentiful, and not too expensive, or you can grab a bus or a collectivo if you're feeling brave.

A word of warning. Do not take american cash. You will be charged a premium in the exchange. Do not exchange more than necessary at any given time. Sometimes trying to convert cuban currency back to foreign currency can be difficult. Make sure you have what you need in cash. Credit cards can be at times difficult to use and atms may not be easily available.

I am fuzzy on the rules for visiting Cuba. Are Americans allow to visit there? If not, how do you get there. I am assuming you go through a third country.

I guess one of the biggest risks of going there is that if something happens to you, you are screwed since there is no American Consulate there.
