I know of a couple of stores in San Pedro but I wouldn't want to shop there. I think your best bet would be to have a friend bring what you are looking for from the states. I brought a couple of Avets and an Accurate with me last trip. If the reels are empty, they can be carried in a carry-on no problem but I have had a hassle when the reels were full of line (line as a weapon?).

There is a half-way decent "sporting goods" shop around the Central Market. 50% of the store is dedicated to hand guns, assault weapons, shotguns, etc. (The Bersa .380 costs over $510.00!!!), but as I recall there is a decent stock of fisherman stuff. Now exactly where around Central Market, I cannot be specific....I tend to get turned around but it was no more than block on either side.....I was just there last week.....it is on a pedestrian walkway, however, but not THE pedestrian walk way.

There are several Gun/Armeria & Sporting Goods stores in the downtown area. It is not the easiest to give directions or names to most of these places, but within a 30 minute walking cycle in downtown you will come across at least 3-4.

If you walk west from the Del Rey ...Key Largo...on Avenida 1 stay on the north side of the street and you will see a sporting goods/armory store a few blocks walk.

Also if you are on Avendia Central you can find the Banco Nacional Atm little building, has casio store on opposite corner.....from the intersection walk south maybe a block and on the right hand side you will see a sporting goods/armory store.

Craigs list has also had a posting for some used fishing equipment in Escazu area if I remember correctly in the last couple of weeks, you should be able to search on their site for the ad.

Good Luck

Surface plugs diving plugs and a serious amout of spinning lures. Most are from the 50,s, 60,s and 70,s. About half are new in the box. If you have any interest, PM me.

in Re: fishing line as a weapon--not to be a buster here but a couple of wraps of even 7#-test line around a throat...
Also wouldn't most places where'd you go fishing have some although higher-priced gear you'd need? Just asking.

Tuanis, what i need specifically is steel leaders ,various size hooks, 20 lb test ,maybe 30 lb test and a reel for heavier line. I have a few lures really dont need more, i fish from shore and usually use live fish as bait, i found a spot where i can catch huge roosters and jacks casting from shore

There is a fishing tackle store one block off of Paseo de Colon NW of the Hospital de Ninos named Keko. It is owned by an old Tico and has a fair assortment of stuff. It is relatively high but probably the best selection in San Jose. There is another on the left side of the road enroute to Jaco.

The is a good size fishing store on Calle 2 between Ave 14 & 16 or 18 on the east side.

It's about 2 blocks north of the Pacific train station.
