Post subject:  "FRED ON EVERYTHING" RETIRES

some of us have been enjoying this dude's website and ramblings for awhile.

I believe ID or another member of the site first mentioned FRED ON EVERYTHING, and provided us all with the link.

Anyway, his most recent post was an announcement of his retirement from writting further posts.

He is a curious fellow and has all sorts of opinions and ideas (some contradictory) that almost always made for good reading.

I, for one, will miss his posts.

here is a link to his last post and a list of prior posts.

That is really bad news. I enjoyed his weekly column as so many of things he found living as an expatriate in Mexico were very similar to what I find living in Costa Rica.

His take on many things in the U.S. government were right on as were so many of his writings on a wide variety of subjects.

I sure will miss him. :(

He retired once before, that time didn't last long either.

I had never heard of Fred on Everything until this thread was posted. While I've only read a handful of his older columns to date, I love the guys commentaries. But, I find it hard to peg him. Sometimes Fred sounds like an arch conservative. Other times he reads like a ultra liberal or libertarian. But, in the final analysis I think Fred has am amazing talent for reading between the lines and poking holes in siituations that make no sense. He does seem to like poking his thumb in the eye of authority when he senses a high BS index.

Fred must also be a retired monger, he alludes to it and his distaste for gringas occasionally. (check out #294, #397, #315)

Which usually means a guy has no particular axe to grind but rather tell it like he sees it. If more "journalists" were like that we would all be a lot better off.

His column on American women and expats marrying foriegn women was spot on, at least in my warped view! Personally, I really liked a lot of his columns. Gonna miss him!

Irish, you are correct. That's why Fred is so interesting. Nor does he need to be politically correct when he has a view.
