Post subject: | Education reqs for work in CR |
On my last trip, a Tica told me she had to work in the DR because, as she did not have a high school diploma, she could not find 'regular' employment. Now, I realize CR supposedly has one of the the best educational systems among Latin American countries, but I find that hard to believe. Maybe the casinos require a high school diploma, but I can't believe that it's not possible to find work as a waitress, bartender, or a clerk in one of the stores without a high school diploma. Does anyone know the actual requirements? |

I don't have first hand knowledge, but I have had girls who were looking for regular work tell me they can't work as a cashier (for example) because they don't have a HS diploma (or equivalent). I do know that there are a lot of girls who never got past sixth grade. I have made several posts on this topic, and on the high cost (relatively) of education here for poor families. I do know that the government closely controls minimum pay for most occupations and that they differ from occupation to occupation. I would not be surprised if they had education requirements as well, but as I say, I don't have first hand knowledge. |

Now that is an original excuse for working as a puta ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In all seriousness, no that is not true. I can think of at least 3 amigas that have very good jobs and no high school diploma. Hell one is an administradora for a government backed agency and she never finished the 9th year. |

You missunderestimated what she meant. What she meant was ; without a high school diploma, she couldn't find a job that paid $100 per hour and had the side benefit of getting her pu*sy eaten and multiple orgasms. |

I have a Tica friend who left home at 14 when she had her first hijo. She is now divorced and struggles to provide for her family. She is a prime candidate for the Del Rey yet she refuses to go that route. Instead of having her cake and eating it too, she lets her cell phone account go deliquient when she needs the money for more important things like electricity or food. She then struggles for the next few months to get the account out of hock. She works a barely above minimum wage job 6 days a week but manages to get by. When a chica tells you that they don't have the education for a good job so they must sell themselves, it is complete BS. The majority of Ticos only have the minimum of educations. Public school ends at the age of 14. After that, Coleigio (High School) and Universidad are not free, and thus, out of reach of many people. Yet they still get by. They live modestly, don't have cars and don't shop at Bloomingdales. A good portion of the DR chicas blow a good portion of their pay up their noses and down other rat holes. |

When she finally mentioned that she had an available line, just needed to pay the back due plus interest, we bopped down to ICE to get the line reconnected. She was in tears when she came and told me that we would need $172,000c for the total with the compounded interest. OUCH! Man, that is so true. One example: I knew a girl two years ago who was doing her best to make money quickly so she could return to Medellin. She started to do a little powder to help her stay "fresh" over the long hours. When I saw her a year later she looked like hell and had stopped sending money to Colombia. She worked just enough to pay the bills, then put everything else up her nose. As soon as she had enough for a binge, she would sit with her girl friends at the HDR and commiserate. She was trying to quit but the hole she dug for herself looked just to deep to climb out of. I know she is not alone. ![]() |

Yes Pac. There seems to be a portion of the girls who cope with the P4P scene and thrive. Those are the real pros who ARE the real pros and can last for years. Another portion seem to go into a slow death spiral. I can understand why. Many do not want to be doing what they are doing. If I were a chica and was faced with their reality I would probably have to resort to drugs too. No matter how attractive, nice and respectful some of the clients may be it has to be a real downer for some of them. ![]() |

Yes, it's true that they don't HAVE to work at the DR. They could get by, living in squalor, not being able to afford shoes for their K*ds, etc.. You can live like that, but who wants to? Certainly none of us can sit and judge others because they don't want to live like that. We all sell a part of our souls somehow to live the way we want to. Whether we work our asses off for half our lives, take jobs we hate, or whatever... I don't know anyone that has any conscious who is 100% happy with everything they've ever had to do to make a buck. |

BangBang - I was with her at the ICE office. I waited outside while she went in with the money she thought she needed. It was very embarrassing to her to have to leave the packed office to get enough money to pay the bill and she really didn't want to come to me for more money. Bottom line: I saw the receipt. |

There is no social safety net for women in CR like there is in the US. If these girls are on the down and out, selling themselves is often the only option. It sure saves their govt from footing the bill for a billion $ welfare program. ![]() |

Of the estimated 7000 sex workers in SJ, how many work the Del Rey? What Pct. are top earners? What Pct. of top earners (over $500 a week) are drug addicts or otherwise piss their money away? I don't know for sure. I estimate there might be 400 or 500 girls who work the Del Rey once a week or more. I would estimate that 10% of those do very well. I suspect the Pct. of spendthrifts is maybe twice the Pct. as you'd find among investment bankers, attorneys or retired firemen. Their pensions are not quite as good, though. |

She had it quite wrong. No, you do not need a HS diploma to get a job in CR. Walk into any Automercado or Hipermas and look around.... I know for a fact, almost no one there has their diploma. The best paid and hardest working people at these places can easily make over $100 per week. You most certainly don't need a diploma to wait on tables. Diplomas or advanced degrees are required for more white collar jobs such as in banks or hospitals. |

You may not *Need* one, that doesn't stop them from demanding one. I've seen Job notices for Automercado and Mas x Menos, they both list high school diploma as requirements. Whether or not they break the rules I don't know, but they advertise them with the diploma requirement. |

I know one chica that works for Automercado that I know does not have but a 9th grade education. Mas x Menos is owned by walmart and Walmart does not have a high school diploma requirement. And i have seen many students (in unform) coming to work in MasxMenos, Hypermas, and Pali (all owned by Walmart). |
