In my humble opinion, that is the biggest load of right-wing bullshit I have ever read on this board.

Maybe, if America ever learns that it has to get along to get along, we will stop the madness.

"Cultural diversity" is such a catch-all term as to be utterly meaningless. I take the middle ground--Defending core values, once they are properly defined, is one thing; resisting any change to the status quo is quite another. In the U,S. the Dutch resisted the English and the French who in turn resisted cultural incursions by the Germans who resisted the Italians and Irish who resisted the... The Spanish resisted the Anglos. The Native Americans resisted everybody. One thing though: our present culture is an amalgam of all of them ( our Constitution for example came in large part from teachings of the Iriquois Nation). That said, no one cultural influence here has EXPLICITLY said we are the only way. It's sad but true that the Netherlands may become the first Islamic nation of Western Europe because they are TOO tolerant and haven't resisted these cultural incursions well enough.
The Australian PM may have issued too strong a call-to-arms, empowering vigilantism and thuggery both official and unofficial against Muslims, But he was elected to office and in another country that feels especially under siege. Be interesting to see how it plays out, how many folks leave voluntarily or otherwise to, say, the largest Muslim nation on Earth, Indonesia (which has Bali as a province--Bali by the way is 93% Hindu and home to the vast majority of Indonesia's Hindu population--which may be why it was picked as a terrorist target,)

One day....not really sure when. The world will understand the difference between Muslim and Islamic Extremism.

So the caucasians are next to go because there are some white supremicists mixed in?

Pac...couldn't agree more :!:

John Howard was PM of Australia from 1996 to 2007. Kevin Rudd is the current PM.

Supposedly Australian women are really great in bed. Never had one myself but those that have swear by them.

It is a tad more than $100 in Australia. Brothels are legal there so you don't have to slink about to get laid.

The airfare to Australia is VERY expensive and it takes FOREVER to get there. :? Compared to Australia, Costa Rica is around the corner.

Terrific place though. Everyone should go once just to see. In general, the country feels like a cross between the US and England. It is more modern like the US but you can definately tell that there are British roots. Lots of ethnic immigrant groups. Of course, Brits lead the pack but there were waves of Italians and Greeks too.

One sight that I will never forget. While enroute to Brisbane from Singapore the plane flew across a part of the Outback. Nothing but dirt and a single track dirt road that spanned from one horizon to the other. Awesome!

Because of those roads Brother Western was talking about, GM of Australia (Holden) has developed and brought to us some great cars (the newer iteration of the Pontiac GTO, for example).
The one regret of my life was not taking an R & R from Vietnam in Sydney, Bondi Beach and King's Cross was THE place then and probably is now. <<SIGH>>.

While in the Navy heard many times that Perth (west coast) is the best place in Auzzie.

At least until the recent economic downturn Australia was actually begging for foreign workers in many good fields as it seems there are not enough locals to fill all the jobs.

I was fortunate to at least have visited Brisbane for 1 week. Nice place.

Australia is a great country. Some of the best steaks are from there (sorry Texas). Women who speak English in any form are a turn off to me.
So can't attest to the quality. But it is very close to a favorite destination of mine and many Aussies too, Indonesia.
I am relatively familiar with Islam having lived/ worked in the most Muslim country in the world, Indonesia.Even have a few friends who are clerics at the national mosque in Jakarta. The extreme forms of Islam, primarily Taliban type sharia law are not at all compatible with western culture.Really have no business there.Likewise in many US states and most Islamic countries, christian fundamentalism has no place either.
In whatever country you choose to call home, anywhere on this planet, it is important to be willing to adapt to the majority culture.Or do not move there. If your home country requires you to wear special attire, and that is not the norm in the country you have moved to, time to take it off.Or go home.Period.The reverse applies as well.If your new country has specific cultural requirements i.e. dress, food, socializing, etc. and you find it "backward" or "crude" then go back to where you came from.Obviously that country is not a good fit for you.

In the esl profession I have had the privelege to be a guest in many countries of many diverse cultures. Some I called home for awhile, some only a short visit. Never once did I ever try to sell anyone there on american ideas being better.Never once did I tell my hosts thier cultural beliefs were outdated or incorrect.Despite being considerably taller and more caucasian than the men of most of the countries, I did my best to fit in.Adopting the language, customs and culture.

What Howard's gripe in this is a very valid complaint. Many countries in the West allow refuge to people from Islamic nations.Yet many are proving to be terrible guests in the country.Be it French, polish, german or dutch, these people are refusing to adopt the language. And the group in the example does not even want to embrace something as simple as a legal system.Definately time for them to head back for a reminder of what brought them there in the first place.
