For people who know - Planning on going down to Costa Rica the Thursday before Easter until the Monday after - How is the situation girl-wise for those who have spent that Easter weekend partying in Costa Rica in the past! Any chance the Del Rey, Sportsman's, and ZB will not be jumping during that time? Thanks in advance! |

Easter (Semana Santa) is the most important holiday of the year in Latin America. Most people head for the beach with their families during that weekend and San Jose is relatively dead. If memory serves me correctly, they stop serving alcohol as well (although I may be thinking of Christmas). |

Does this ban on alcohol sales extend to bottle sales at the duty-free shop at the airport? I'm asking so Brother Mikey doesn't commit hara-kiri or something. |

Mikey, Holy Thursday and Good Friday are official holidays in CR. Not even the buses run then (I believe). This isn't the USA, down there they take Holy Week and Easter seriously. True, most Ticos use this as family time and go to the beach, but officially this is more than just the Easter Bunny. Worst time of the year for a CR mongering trip, unless you have phone numbers of favoritas and/or novias, or don't mind rooting around for some gorditas in the low low-end MP's. Otherwise go to the beach like the Ticos or go elsewhere. |

I was here and in full monger mode last year: The only day that the Del Rey was really "shut down" was Friday. On Friday, sales of booze across the bar are prohibited, however, if you have a room at a friendly hotel, you can buy a bottle and charge it to your room. Set-ups are available across the bar. Their were always girls to choose from. Sometimes more than you can possibly do and they are looking for something to break the boredom and fill the larder. Excellent deals are available. If you are looking for PARTY-PARTY, not the time of year to come. If you are looking for some quality time with women and maybe a chance to connect with a "favorita" it is a good time to be in CR. As I said in another thread, compared to other times of the year, business is off. Compared to the USA anytime, CR is still where I would rather be. |
