Post subject:  Merry Christmas...Muy Tico Style!

Christmas is a big event in Costa Rica but that does not stop them from hanging the Muy Tico spin on things:

- They sell real Christmas trees but if you ask for a tree stand that will allow you to water the tree they look at you like you lost your mind. Muy Tico!

- Most places like the Mall have little kiosks to wrap your presents. Try buying a roll or two of Christmas wrap and you will have a problem. Yes, they sell the cheapest imaginable paper (like colorful news print) in small individual sheets that are impossible to get home in good condition and are too small to wrap anything with unless you buy several. Looked all over town for any kind of selection of good wrapping paper with no luck... Muy Tico!

- They sell rolls of scotch tape with no dispenser. Not as an option for those who have a permanent dispenser but as the only option. Sure is tough getting the end of the tape once it glues back to itself. Muy Tico!

- They sell very nice skate boards (buying for a six year old) but no safety equipment! I may have to have a friend bring some knee/elbow pads, gloves and a helmet from the States! Muy Tico!

Okay, I'm through bitching. Y'all have a Merry Christmas and don't forget to spoil the little ones!

PAC55, I agree (had the same problems last year!!

BUT, everything you mentioned above CAN be found here; you just are expected to have to look for these items.

Atually I found the rolls of gift wrap and tape(with dispenser) at Hipermas and Universal. Hypermas and one of the toy stores on AVE.4 had the skate and skate board safety equipment. And as for the tree stands, I saw them at one of the many Xmas decoration places that open all over town every year. Sorry do not remember which one.
