I have been worried these last couple of days about our formerly active brother Hand-Solo who has moved, along with his wife "A" and his Ch*ldren to India. I sent him a PM asking him to respond to this forum,or me personally so we will know they are OK. If anyone has any info, please post. |

the attacks were basically on the ritz carlton type hotels in the wealthiest areas of mumbai. so unless he had a habit of staying five star in the financial district i would think he's ok for the moment. |

Beyond the higher costs this is one of the main reasons I don't like to stay in the best hotels even if I had the dough. You would of thought they would have had pretty good security and limited entry points with armed guards but I guess not here. Although there is a lot of terrorist activity inside of India maybe they didn't figure so far south away from the borders?? These terrorists just don't give up do they? They wait and wait and plan for the weakest targets. My heartfelt condolences to the departed and injured. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The reason they wait and wait until the time comes for them to strike is that they truly believe their god has told them to do what they are supposed to do. The power of religious belief and its accompanying zeal is incredible and grants super human strength and will power to the true believers -- no matter how absurd their beliefs are to you and me. That power can easily break up otherwise loving families, can lead people to wantonly slaughter total strangers, and commit mass suicide. It is my understanding that those hotels do have excellent security and did have it in place just prior to the attacks. However, the security was compromised and relaxed which allowed attacks to succeed. That concept is probably not well publicized because it will be an integral part of the investigation and failure analysis. Even if you have a hardened target, it can be breached by a small group of truly dedicated (believers) special ops personnel. Believe it or not, they don't always select the weakest target. |

Vegas Bob, it is very unlikely that your friend and family would be living in the area that came under attack. Many locals could be in the area to have dinner and go to the movies and I hope your friend was not in the area on that horrible evening. |

CRT brother Witling is over there now. He's supposed to be leaving today (Tuesday 12/2) to come home, but we'll see what happens. I wish him luck with his travels, especially with the way things are in BKK right now. ![]() |

Howdy from Handy! Thanks for worrying all - We are safe and sound. We actually had went to a beach town called Goa a few hundred kms from Mumbai for some R&R. Actually the place was LOADED with russians - mostly monger ruskies and 3-5 women each. With all those european angles, Papichullo and Easy would be in Heaven!! When we learned about the attacks obviously it shook us up a bit. It felt like 911 when I was in LA from the perspective - are we next?? While high end hotels were hit, if the attack had been in Bangalore, it just as easily could have ben us. There isnt a whole lot to do somedays so many expats while not staying at the hotels, we go for brinch etc. In fact the previous Sunday we were at the Oberio which was in the chain of one of the places hit. So all is well - I'll be sure to pop in more frequently and say hi! Paco and Latino - when are you heading to Thailand? I'll go meet you there. PS Looks like we will be heading to Medellin for New Years! |
