How many of you have had second thoughts about going to CR after watching the markets go to hell. I booked my trip for Thanksgiving the first of August. I Made up my mind to go these Monday. I sure hope it does not get and worst.

Wouldn't that depend upon each individuals personal financial situation and degree of exposure?

why worry about the things you can't control? with all the bad news around a little vacation is that much more enticing. have fun relax and don't pay attention or talk about it while there. hopefully when you return to reality you will be pleasantly surprised. if not how would staying home have changed anything?

My investments may have gone to $hit but I've still got my paycheck and savings! Just returned from trip 4 this year and am already planning next year's first trip!
:D

Having the stock market go down the toilet means that I may have to work a few years beyond age 55 while I wait for recovery.
:?

In the mean time...
Pura Vida!

A real factor that comes into play is that the dollar is stronger than ever before. So your money will stretch further in most places.

What better way to recharge and take a break from the onslaught of bad news and negativity permearting the U.S. and the rest of the industrialized nations than to go to C.R. for a week and just TAKE A BREAK and Bang as HARD as you can Bang while enjoying the tranquility and serenity that C.R. provides.

I was in the Key Largo and Del Rey tonight and they were both quite full of girls and guys. If there is any fallout from the economic problems, they weren't visible tonight. On the other hand (tm) who knows how far in advance these trips were booked, and it seemed that there were more locals inside than usual. I will report back in a few months, esteemed colleagues.

The markets one thing but what about just being employed? That concerns me more than anything. I am concerned my job could possibly disapear sometime next year. I'm making a trip to CR now while I have the disposable income available to me. I may just be paranoid but every day the economic news just gets worse. Though I am prepared if I should lose my job, the distuption in my life is something I don't really need. I know a half dozen people in their mid and late 50's who have been laid off from their jobs this past year. Two were lucky enough to get decent buy outs. The others weren't so fortunate. All six are now employed but at much less money than they previously earned. :(

So yes, I had second thoughts about making this trip. But I decided that even if the worst should happen I'll have the memories of this trip. If nothing happens then I'll start planninig the next one! :D :D :D

Yes I have had second and third thoughts about canceling, I have a secure job, but I bet the guy's who got laid off thought the same thing. I started saving late in the game and though I am in fair shape financially, I am by no means even remotely set for retirement.

I'm approaching fifty and thought I would be set by now, I know not old but still I have seen recently several people my age do nothing but work and drop dead. There is no guarantee about tomorrow so Phuck it lets live for today.

I don't want to be the one who says damn I wish I would have done more when I was able. I decide a few years ago to start traveling at least twice a year and as long as I don't have to borrow to do it, I'm sticking with my plan.

That and I can get my teeth fixed for a reasonable price.

See you guy's in a week!

My 2nd trip to CR will be in Jan after a Sept. visit. Since I work for the Marriott, I get a rate. To my surprise, it's $60 in Jan. as opposed to $70 this past Sept.

I'm not boasting, as the cabs will offset the savings realized, but as far as one economic indicator goes, well, the situation is looking pretty good for the "business" traveler.

Like the old saying goes, "Where there's smoke...."

Maybe in a sale? ;)

TD,

Bro, I bet you would have a much better time all around by using that $60 to pay for a room in the old wing at the SL or even at La Amistad.

Of course, you're right, and I'll be doing exactly what you suggest!

I hit the Gulch for a few hours on my 1st trip, but schedules prevented me from enjoying it like so many do here.

Economic conditions in the next few months are being felt by the Marriott, btw, not the Courtyard.. (so far).
