Good, it does happen while I'm in town. After I booked my Dec. 8-16 trip (only 35,000 Delta Skymiles) I remembered the festival, was last there for it in 2005, figured it would be the 2nd Saturday. :D

I'll be in town then. Any info? What it is, where, time, etc. Sounds like something different to do, which is what I look for each trip.

Luz is the Spanish word for light. In the simplest of terms it is a parade of floats decorated in lights from Sabana Park to downtown San Jose. The floats are very decorative and sponsored by some large corporations.

It's San Jose's Christmas season fiesta. I think there are several activities, but what I remember from 2005 is that at night bags of confetti are given out to people on Ave. Central and people take delight in throwing it onto everyone else. I didn't know this then, and got doused several times while trying to get to McDonald's for dinner :D Oh yeah, and some drunken middle-aged Tica goverment worker (no, not doable at all, and she said "me no prostitute" :D) dragged me into a soda for more drinks.   I don't touch the hard stuff so I said goodbye and got out there quickly. :D

And I also remember fireworks, they went off as me and my then-favorita finished up a session in the Del Rey. :D

edit, ID mentioned the parade, that's the main activity.

Many communities outside the San Jose region have smaller versions in their barrios.

Keep an eye on the Weekend section of The Tico Times.
