Post subject:  Citibank branches in CR?
This Hallowen trip I saw a number of new Citibank branches going up around town. Did they buy Aval/Banco Uno? Citi apparently took over their branch in Colonia Del Rio, Guadalupe. Trying to find info on the internet but so far no good. Anyone have any info? Its my main bank so kinda curious....

They purchased Banco Cuscatlan last year but are only just getting around to changing the signs on the buildings.

The large Banco Uno office in Rohmoser is now Citibank. However, I believe it is still completely separate from Citibank in American. In otherwords, you cannot walk in and account account service for your American account. I could be wrong if that has changed....

I concur.

CitiGroup purchased Banco Cuscatlan within the past year or so. Cuscatlan is my main bank in CR, so this has affected me also. They (Cuscatlan) even e-mailed me an IRS Form W-9, and asked me to fill it out, and return it to the bank during my next visit. :roll: Needless to say, I've been withdrawing money every trip, trying to dry up that account. I don't like the inevitable visability of the "new" Citibank / Cuscatlan entity. :(

Have pretty much confirmed at my branch what Chi-Trekker has said here...only convenience will be wih the use of the ATMs... similar to what is available in Colombia...

Here's a short-and-sweet article from today's Inside Costa Rica:

Citi Completes Acquisition of Banco Uno and Banco Cuscatlán
Banco Uno and Banco Cuscatlán are no longer, the red (Uno) and yellow (Cuscatlán) have all been replaced by the blue Citibank signs, as the two private banks now are now part of the Citi family and will be operating under the Citi name.

The merger create one bank with a net worth of us$100 million and assets of over more than us$750 million dollars. The merger also means that Citi will now have 500 ATM's in Costa Rica, 67 branches and some 80.000 clients.

My Scotia Bank account in Canada is a completely separate account from my Scotia Bank account in Costa Rica. In other words, I cannot move my Canadian deposits into my Costa Rica account as they are essentially separate banks.

I think that is the same thing that Chi_trekker has said about the relationship of Citi USA to Citi Costa Rica.
