Post subject:  Talking translaters
Anyone use or have any luck using these things in a pinch or to practice with. I know learn Spanish. It just never seems important until just before a trip Dammit.

Easier to find a phucking translator - a working girl that speaks English. :D

I find them handy when you are unsure of how to pronounce a word.

The BES-1890 has come down in price since that last thread. I recently bought one from electronic palace.com for $55 plus $12 shipping. I've used it in a pinch back in my room but don't tend to carry it around SJ. So far I've mainly used it as a tool in attempting to learn spanish.

Thanks I saw that but the thread is several years old and the reviews I've been reading have been saying the various models change from month to month and model to model.

They seem to come in most languages.

I looked at a bunch of them and chose the Lingo Euro5Talk (model TT5500). It's a 4 line x 22 character talking translator with 100K words/11.5K phrases, has both speakers and earbuds, is backlit for low-light situations and can function as an alarm clock/calculator/metric converter. It's about $90 at www.cordlessworkz.com/index.asp?PageAct ... tegory=658 though may be cheaper elsewhere. Wizard device--highly recommended.

Personally I love the Seiko non-talking translators. Don't really need them much now, but you will be amazed how the Ticas love passing one back and fourth while you fumble through a conversation.

The Franklins _suck_.

I fracture the language every time. But manage to communicate. The girls love it, and I think many appreciate the effort. I pay less than many, and got laid alot.
