Gary is a good friend of mines that travels to CR 8 times a year, and he visit one girl all the time... Well he comes back from the last trip and tells me she is 3 months pregnant for him. He has no clue of what to do? I'm leaving for CR next week and he wants to join me but he's worried about something....I have no clue... any advice for him? I told him if she is cool and she is 22 years old thats no crime.... just relax and make sure it's his and takecare of his bebe |

It's no big deal if she is..... Just dont fall into that trap... I told him he should still come with me to CR and have fun, and to be super careful of who he interacts with and always stay wrapped! |

"always stay wrapped"? Don't you think that might be like telling him to close the barn door after the horse has already gotten loose? Sure, stay wrapped is always good advice, but in the case of this chica hasn't the damage already been done? Did he tell you whether he was barebacking this chica as some guys are wont to do? How else could he have gotten her pregnant or at least how could she be so certain it is his (as opposed to the many other guys who were with her) unless she was doing something different with him that she wasn't doing with everyone else?
But whether he was doing things with her that he shouldn't have been doing or not, that only changes the probability that it is his. If she is a working girl (or has other tico or gringo boyfriends) there is still the possibility that it isn't his. Heck, there is even the possibility that she isn't pregnant at all as it isn't unheard of for chicas to make such things up as a means of extorting money from a hapless gringo "boyfriend". If he wants to do the responsible thing, he needs to first determine if he is really responsible, which means going down to a clinic with her and both sides taking the necessary tests. If it turns out it is not his (or she's not really pregnant), then there is no problem (for him at least). He may elect to help her out anyway, but personally I wouldn't (that's someone else's job). If it turns out it is his, well then he has some problems. Being in CR, as opposed to being back in the US, places him at the "mercy" of the CR paternity laws, which are NOT designed to protect gringo mongers. If he's "lucky" she may be willing to have an abortion (which he should at least pay for). If she wants to keep the Ch*ld, and what catholic chica wouldn't want to keep their baby if there was a rich gringo papi they could get to pay for it, he can be on the hook for Ch*ld support whether he wants to or not. Leaving CR without some sort of payment may be very difficult. As I recall there is some special law on the books about this very thing though I forget the details (maybe someone else can help me out). I'm sure your friend is a nice guy and hopefully wants to do the right thing if its his. However, will he really be happy about to make years of support payments for this Ch*ld (whether voluntarily or by law) or even getting sucked into a marriage of convenience based on taking responsibility for a mistake rather than any real longterm compatibility with a (hopefully) former chica prostitute? That is a prescription for a lifetime of supporting her whole extended family (not just his Ch*ld) and her inevitable loss of looks and sexual appeal (which is probably the main if not only basis of his attraction towards her) |

Example: friend of mines, and he visit one girl, well he comes back from the last trip. Personally I'd run for the hills, and not come back for at least 2 years. Once she points him out to police he's stuck there till an arrangement is made, this could take months. Just read more about it on CRT.

I agree also with our freind Jadcujo. Calling out someone in a situation like this by name would be over the top - one more reason to suspect the posters' validity.

Something similar happened to me when I decided a working girl was my novia several years ago in Acuna, Mexico. Beautiful little whetta baby girl. I had been with this lady almost every week end and vacation for two years. Had supported her other Ch*ldren and helped the family. Decided something just didn't feel right so I did a DNA test (real easy). Wasn't my baby! Duhhhhhhhhh! Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. I agree that it is a weird post in several ways but didn't you guys read those recent threads about grammar and such. There is plenty of bad grammar going on around here by every day members.
Consider the following: 1) The poster has very few posts but he has been on the board since last April and his initial posts from back then do not suggest a tico who just came on board to have some fun at our expense. 2) He lists his occupation as "Computer Scientist" but I don't take that too seriously. Just look what I've listed for mine. One thing we can be sure of is that he's not an English Teacher and you may actually be right about him not being a native English speaker. 3) Mentioning his friend by name, assuming Gary is his real name, was a bit indiscreet but its not like that by itself is really going to be enough for any of us to figure out who he is. Heck, most people around here don't even know my first name and I post all the time. I'd attribute his name-calling to be more a crime of thoughtlessness than anything else more nefarious. 4) The weird part of his post was not so much the grammar, but what he wrote in the latter half. A chica tells his friend that he knocked her up and "he's worried about something" but he has "no clue" what that could be?  His friend wants to go with him to CR but is reluctant because of the situation with this chica and his advice is him its cool just relax? Again, this shows complete thoughtlessness about his friend's predicament and possible selfishness that he would put having a travel buddy for himself ahead of that buddy's welfare.

6) I actually agree with his closing remarks "make sure it's his and takecare of his bebe" but the cavalier way he wrote it like "no big deal, even though you may be financially and morally responsible for bringing an unintended life into the world that you could well end up paying for the rest of your life, that's nothing to worry about." 6) I already commented on the absurdities in his follow-up post. |
