hi guys

im setting up my next trip to the land of plenty.. what would be the best months to go as far as better weather??

have to book my room for 2 weeks at the HLH zb.. :D im having withdrawal :shock:

February is the driest month, and sunniest. If you prefer rain, September is good.

For weather, anytime between January through April (that's why they call it the "dry season", duh!).

Of course, that is also the most popular time for all those eco-tourists and even many mongers seeking to escape the cold winter weather back home. So a good argument could be made that, if you're not planning to go out hiking any rain forest trails anyway, the "off-season" is actually a better time to go for those of us who would be pursuing mainly "indoor sports". Fewer other mongers and tourists = more ability to negotiate better prices.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure how valid that argument is any more as more and more tourists get wise to the advantages of "off-season" travel and drive down the price advantage. Basically, it becomes a somewhat of a wash as the price-weather trade-off find a new equilibrium. Still, with weather being a bigger factor for those tourists spending more time outdoors, I'd have to think the lower prices still have to more than offset the poorer weather for mongers relatively speaking even now.

Also keep in mind that, unless you go at the peaks of the rainy season (for SJ that is May-June and Sep-Oct), the rain during the rainy season is usually not all THAT bad (maybe an hour two each afternoon).

A better question would be if you're really jonesing that much for another CR fix, why should you be so concerned when is the absolute best time to go. Suppose we said the best time to go was next summer, would you really wait until then to go?

True Dat...I only walk to the peruvian (great food) place half a block away. and a cab to diner. with the new restaurant at HLH I may not need to go anywhere.
Is the restaurant open yet?

Is the rainy season back already? Or is it still good? Not that it makes much of a difference. If its still dry, I might be on a plance on Monday. Otherwise, I'll be coming mid-may.

The countryside is very green and beautiful during the rainy season. Also Guanacaste is a great place to see then. The afternoon showers keep the dust down.

I agree that the time of year is not really such a big factor when planning a trip to the gulch. Even during the "green" season when it may rain every day there are usually only afternoon or evening showers or downpours. It's not like the winter in the PacNW when we may not see the sun for 2 weeks. The mornings in CR are usually sunny and bright. Plan your excursions for early in the day and carry an umbrella (like the locals do). I find the sound of the heavy rain on the tin roofs calming and enjoy staying in, having a few doses of some fine rum and chilling out.

If you want to go out later in the day, be prepared to taxi it if it begins to rain. If you usually take a taxi to dinner already then this will not be much different for you. As mentioned, the only drawback may be outdoor excursions that might get rained out. If you don't plan on leaving the city the this will not be an issue for you.

I always do a trip in either June or July and enjoy the afternoon storms and the sunny, cool mornings. The air is much fresher.

Rainy cold weather gets me more in the mood to monger for some reason. And definitely gotta go with the fatties when it's like that. :lol:

I always like going in the cool months. Either October-ish or at the latest February. I dont like being overly hot, and the fact that most buildings dont have A/C factors into that. I like the cool (at least not hot) days.

I hate sitting in the DR around 2 in the afternoon and sweating all my beer out.

I will be of no help on this subject. I found that the last week of Oct to include Halloween at the SL to be great time. I guess I could try some other time but then there is Halloween at the SL.......
