John must have hit the lottery or something because the DR has 2 brand spanking new computers in the lobby for customer use. They are very fast. No more screens going black. Since the speed is good,I imagine that the wait will now be shorter. New computers, new couches....what's next? John buying pu*sy for the customers...NAH

The girls were complaining that they waste too much time writing their RFM's because the computers are too slow. This is time they could use to get gringo's to buy them more drinks. After crunching the numbers, the DR figured that after a couple of days, the drinks gringos will buy for the girls will pay for the computers and the rest is gravy!!!

I hope he included monitors too. Those 15inch antiques were getting bad.

And these days you only want to bring a laptop if you're willing to lose it to the TSA folks, so we more depend on local Internet sources. At least I will.

Let me provide a great tip about those computers and the ones at the SL. (I know computer/network security very well.) When you go to hotmail click the little link that says "Use enhanced security". If you don't its an absolute cinch to grab your password. Also do UNcheck the "remember" boxes.

Junky, I not only know computer security but get paid to develop security systems. Any security expert will tell you that using any public computer terminal is unsecured, no matter what you click. It would take me a few seconds to put a dozen of different keystrokes capture programs on any public computer and I can gather all the information sitting at my room.

If you do not want to bring your laptop to CR, then I recommend not using any public computer but for only to do a basic search or get some basic information from it. No emails, no logging on to banks or any account that you need to input your userid and password. You have been forewarn.

I wonder what the percentage of laptops confiscated would be? Are people really refraining from taking them nowadays?

Not that I know of and have not heard of anyone here having a laptop taken. A couple have posted having laptops looked at, think the most recent was PaulyVegas returning from Colombia. Maybe JazzboCR can clue us in as to what he means by that statement :?:

If you have nothing to hide, then you have nothing to fear. I have not even remotely entertained the thought of not taking mine because it may get searched. Search away.

Josie, you are a computer expert who works in that industry. You're an exception, but just about all of the people that use these computers are incapable of doing this, including 100% of the chicas.

Never underestimate the power of the DR chica on the prowl for new sources of income. You can let them hack into your bank account BUT FOR GODSAKES don't let them see the pictures on CRT. No more "one drink for me". From now on it's "one little itty bitty password for me"

I and thousands of other associates travel millions of miles every year around the globe and have never heard of anybody losing a laptop to TSA. Maybe I just jinxed myself but it seem unless you are suspected of doing something shady it should not be an issue.

Just curious-what does getting a laptop stolen and or looked at by TSA have anything to do with new computers at the DR.

Well if you follow the natural course of the discussion curious Mike321 it obviously took a turn towards laptops after this post:

but I'm guessing that a play by play explanation of each post in the thread to reach that conclusion isn't really the point of your post is it?

Maybe the next time VB makes an annoucement like this he should have Admin1 immediately lock the thread so it doesn't go off on such a wild tangent from desktop computers to laptops.
