I would say it makes Americans look bad and gives America the bad press.Costa Rica was the location but an American did the crime.

Yes he is an American which certainly does not do much for the image of the United States but it is far more damaging to Costa Rica. I would think most who read the article would be more likely to be disgusted by the individual and not place much blame on his country. It does however reinforce the reputation of Costa Rica as a "sex tourism destination" in the mind of many who will read about his conviction.

The more the public perceive Costa Rica as a sex tourism destination the more likely the government of Costa Rica will step up the pressure on MP's, strip clubs, etc.

Deputy prosecutor faces
sex-with-minor charge

By the A.M. Costa Rica staff

A team of prosecutors and law officers from San José detained a deputy prosecutor in Golfito Thursday on charges related to a long-running sexual relationship with a minor.

The Poder Judicial said that the charges were rape, corruption of a minor, paid sexual relations and making pornography. The name of the suspect was not released, but the Poder Judicial did say that the man was employed in the Golfito judicial offices.

A press release said that the relationship began in San José in 2001 when the woman involved was 15. She now is an adult and brought the charges. The relationship continued until at least 2005, the Poder Judicial said.

Because the case began in San José, the suspect was being taken to the capital Thursday to be questioned there.

Post subject:  re: repellent men

You'll notice that in the case linked by Brother Dildoman, this "man" was so repellent even the Cubans didn't want him around and extradited him.
I'd be interested in learning of even one case where this type of "man" was ever cured, absent major brain surgery. If he isn't in solitary forever, he has a "shelf life" in the joint of maybe 1/2 hour and he won't be killed quickly either--a piece here, a piece there 'til he screams for the release of death. Crooks are usually socially conservative people with families they don't want preyed upon.
I certainly concur that this crap links the civilian mind ever closer to "sex tourism" and Costa Rica with little distinction between ch*ld and adult activities.
