I have heard that they are reliable. Their employees at the counter are very kind and helpful.

ARCR is not quite as inexpensive as it seems. You have to become a member, $100.00 per year for a non resident, and it most likely will take more than 1 year to get your residency approved so that an additional $200.00.

My immigration attorney is not accepting new clients so I have no recommendation for you.

Many are satisfied with ARCR some are dissatisfied. I would pose the question on a Yahoo group such as "Costa Rica Living" and ask for recommendations before committing to any attorney. There are many in the same price range as ARCR.

I used them and was reasonably happy. I went with them because they have a LOT of experience, doing as many as they do. There are undoubtedly cheaper attorneys that may be great, but I didn't have one I knew or trusted enough to take chances. It worked out fine for me, with the usual frustration that seems to come with everything in this country.

They also run monthly 2-day seminars on many aspects of residency (banking, buying/renting a residence, finding a reputable place to buy a computer and getting Internet service, types of health insurance, etc.). There were some soft sales pitches from some of the preferred providers but overall I found it most helpful. Nominal cost includes lunch.
The reason I bring all this up is because those with NYC Birth Certificates (I'm one of those) can expect to have a harder time getting accepted for residency (for reasons not specified). Otherwise, it appers you fill out the docs, hand them the package and at some future time, get a call to pick it up. Bim bam boom. I may well be oversimplifying but it appears to be seamless service. Anybody with horror stories to report? That's what this Board is for, yes?

I would and did go elsewhere...

find an attorney who works for a fairly large firm and you should be OK...despite what you may have heard elsewhere
