I did a search, but really didnt find what I was looking for. Looks like I'll be down late Oct to early Nov, and will be there on Halloween. Whats it like down there around that time? Apparently there are Halloween parties, but are those just for us mongers or ticas/ticos celebrate it as well?

Is the action plentiful, or does it die down a little bit? Any of the area hotels have any special parties going on? Any other info I should know?

Thanks guys.

A number of us will be in town for Halloween. Halloween (Oct 31) is a Friday, but I recall reading last year, Tico tradition is to celebrate festive, secular holidays on the closest Saturday. My guess is that there will be parties on both days at various locations. As for whether or not Halloween is normally celebrated in CR or just for our benefit, someone more intimate with CR culture needs to answer.

From what I've seen, Halloween celebrations are pretty much a gringo thing that has caught on because it's fun. I've been in the Rey and some of the girls dress up, which can be cute depending on who and what they are wearing. Nobody beats Nukenfutz though. All in all it's fun and not one of those holidays to avoid like Semana Santa, NY eve or Mother's day.

Halloween here sucks, the catholic church has put a lot of effort into discouraging people from celebrating it and even K*ds from dressing up and trick or treating. There are a few decent parties though (the White House had a great one last year), but my wife and I being huge Halloween fans usually go to the USA to celebrate it. This year we're going to Salem, MA which should be cool.
