Ok, so I and a few others have been chastized a bit for thinking the recent "social change" in CR is nothing more than local officals doing some ball busting at local establishments. And that we are subscribing to some conspiracy theory. That it has nothing to do with NAFTA, CAFTA or any other type of US legislation. That CR, a small developing country, is immune from Uncle Sam.

Well, I did some quick research to see if anyone else might share my opinions. I located this video on youtube. It is Costa Rica specific, therefore, I legitimize my post here. I ask only that you watch it and listen CLOSELY to what is being said in OUR congress. Also, I would ask that if you can read Spanish read the video comments. Somthing to the effect of God Damn Gringos. Hey...I'm just repeating what was written. I know this is somewhat political but by the same token, I believe it is timely and more importantly, directly related to our hobby. So, form your own opinions, please. I am anxious to hear the consensus.

By the way this video is about 10 months old.

I've only been going to Costa Rica for the past year, and I don't live there so I am not nearly as knowledgeable as some of the local veterans. That said, I've read the posts here, read the local newspapers and watched the video clips. It sure sounds like this is the work of some local politicians trying to make a name for themselves which could lead to permanent changes in the p4p world of San Jose. After all the election isn't for a while.

Greengo--I find your animus, your invective directed against a principled man who gave a well-reasoned speech most puzzling. Did he kick your dog or is this the last gasp of a thoroughly-discredited "Impeach Earl Warren" hysteric? Whatever. It has no place here. Such thoughts in the future? Share them via PM with other ultra-right running dog of laissez faire capitalism nutjobs and keep it off the Board. We're adults talking calmly about stuff that's important to all of us. Got it?

Get real!
If you watched (and understood) the news video, in the end the Biddie of the Barrio was complaining about the mansions of Amon being turned in to brothels. Never mind the fact that she runs a (non-monger friendly) hotel in one of the barrio's mansions.

I would like to see some historic fotos of the barrio showing the delapidated state of the mansions before they were bought & refurbished to their current state. I can only imagine that low property values made these properties viable for their current uses.

Like the immigration raids & passport checks, this is all just for show.

Without knowing anything about the history of Barrio Amon--though thanks for the tip Greengo--see I can play nice--it's a historic fact everywhere that such dilapidated districts as Brother Western mentioned are the one's converted to new artistic or other uses. The "hippies" came up in SF's Mission District, the East Side of Milwaukee, the Lower East Side of NYC, etc. etc. Rents are cheap and buildings are usually good stock to be converted. Later, of course when such area are"civilized" and made safe by the presence of so many former Middle Class-ers, the gentrifiers move in and ruin everything, covering all with blandness and chain stores. Oh, well--time to move on to the next ghetto. Or in my case a trailer park at the edge of town.

US Fighting Men & Women, by definition, go commando rarely enjoying the great pleasure of dry farts, hence your premise, much like McBush is soft in practice let alone theory.

I remember when I was 35 I took a Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer charge to trial by myself. I had never been arrested as an adult. I was advised not to by the judge but did it anyway. This cop was dirty as the oil in Iraq. I've known him for at least 15 years at the time. See his girlfriend was dealing drugs and he knew it, I tried to help him get rid of her and he turned the tables on me. :( I never hit him, maybe pushed but never hit him. I made him look like the scum he was at the trial. :) After 2 days of testimony the state offered me 2 years of probation, I said go fly a kite. Guess what I won and got his ass charged with trafficking right after the trial. :D I had called the feds to watch the trial. You can represent yourself only if you know all your cards are stacked on your side. :P Since that day I will never trust anyone in a uniform. :( I will respect them but not trust them as far as I could throw them. I sued the police dept for false arrest (Had attorney for this one) and settled 5 years later the day of the trial for close to 6 figures. :D by the way I don't take meds. LOL
P.S. I was a cop right out of High school for a year. 2 shootings later (No deaths involved) :D I left before finishing my 1 year probation. :( They where good shoots but was advised that I may have a trigger finger. LOL Dam right, I say drop it once, after that your being dropped. Sorry to ramble on.

I should have gone to law school instead of being a cop after high school.

P.S. Ya, still have the Crown Vic. Just put in some bids on 3 2007 Dodge Charger Hemi's fully equipped with all the lights with low miles. I'll keep one of those and sell you the Crown Vic. Florida will shit his pants next trip to your place.
