Interesting post for a board dedicated to gentlemen's travel to Costa Rica, rather than zoology or herpatology.
To answer your question, the sapo bufo dorado (bufo toad) is common to C.R., as are several poison dart frogs, from which curare' is extracted. The poisons are used primarily as defense, rather than to trap/kill/digest prey.
There are several serpentaria where one can view these cute little poison-pots.
Additionally, C.R. features the bushmaster and fer-de-lance (terciopelo) poisonous snakes, a couple species of poisonous aquatic snakes, bullet ants, fire ants, killer bees....so if it's venom you want, you've come to the right place.
Again...I can't really understand how a post so rife with scientific knowledge made it to this forum...unless the article also includes the process for extracting the venom to be used to knock out street beggars or help with the "seduction" of our female playmates.
Wow. Let's go lick a toad. Bufo, anyone?
