I guess it is going to stay like this for some time, at 572.49 the Central Bank is supposed to intervene.

Exchange rate was 546 this morning at bank in INS BUILDING.

I got about 12,000 more colones on $400 this morning [7/17] than what I did 2 weeks ago.

This is all fascinating in a morbid kind of way to watch at a distance, but the question arises--Are shopkeepers, bars, and other, er, merchants adjusting their prices as rapidly as the colon is plunging? I have a mental picture of the Del Rey chicas walking around with signboards or those changeable signs gas stations use. Serious subject, jocular approach.

Srilm brings up a great point. If you can negotiate payment to chicas in colones based on an exchange rate of 500 to 1 (kind of the rule of thumb for some time for a simple exchange rate ratio I believe), then obviously, it is advantageous to do so. But if they are expecting full value on the current exchange rate, it doesn't really matter does it?

Who has more insight to how that seems to be working over the last couple of weeks?

The exchange rate has been going up quickly over the last couple weeks and as of today its 547c - $1. If you find a chica to take colones (most will) you'll save yourself $8 for a cien chica.

And you might want to stay in CR 'til 1/22/09 or whenever the Israelis take out completely the Iranian nuclear facilities and most of the mullahs. It's gonna get real ugly, especially if they even partially fail.
