Thinking about taking private dance lessons next time I'm in SJO. I found out a little about "Merecumbe," a dance studio in San Pedro and Escazu. Can anyone tell me which is closer to the Gulch? Any other recommendations?

The one in San Pedro is closer to the Gulch.

Here is their website: www.merecumbe.net

Georgee, thanks for the web site. That was the perfect reply and gave me just what I was looking for. CRT to the rescue! (It doesn't take much to make me happy.)

So what are the popular dances in SJO (specifically KL). I have heard merengue, salsa, and bachata. Can anyone rank them? Also, I have heard there are different types of salsa. I'm taking a class in LA style. will that work for me in SJO? I'm just starting to get into the whole Latin dancing thing and would like to find more info. I know KL isn't really a dance club, but it would be nice to have a spin with a chica there before we go back to my place and make the beast-with-two-backs :D .

1. Cien – best dance you can learn. Get the chicas off and always in you room :P :P :P
2. Salsa – different styles but the same footsteps. Learn the steps and the rest is just practice
3. Merengue – different styles but the same footsteps. Learn the steps and the rest is just practice
4. Cumbia - different styles but the same footsteps. Learn the steps and the rest is just practice

While bachata and Reggaetón are popular, the above three are more popular and have become the standard of latin dancing. You should be able to go to any latin club and have a good time dancing with the three above. Good Luck.
