"Most borrowers know a late payment or high outstanding balance can hurt their credit. But what about frequenting a massage parlor, retreading a tire, or visiting a marriage counselor? Such activities count, too, according to a suit filed by the Federal Trade Commission in federal court in Atlanta on June 10 against card issuer CompuCredit ..." http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/08_26/b4090030423218.htm?campaign_id=rss_null I'm re-thinking my stay at the hotel del ray. I mean I can stay at the holiday inn (not tica friendly) and just visit fantasy & ZB and use their rooms. A decent plan? |

assuming this is your first trip: after a walk through the lobby of the Hotel Del Rey you may reevaluate your need for a hotel room. The holiday inn is nice but the Del Rey is convenient. Lee |

First of all, the HDR is listed as a Hotel and Casino, not an MP. Sure, in actuality it is essentially the same as an MP, but do the credit company computers really know that? Secondly, its not like the HI and the HDR are the only games in town. There are MANY other hotels that are MUCH more tica friendly than EITHER of those places (e.g. they dont charge the $50 and $10 guest fees that those places charge). And even though those places are arguably even more tica friendly than the HDR, I seriously doubt their names showing up on any credit card reciepts is going to raise any suspicions. Third, if for some reason you absolutely have to stay at some hotel that either charges you $10 or more for the "right" to do bring back chicas or even doesn't let you bring them back at all, then that doesn't mean ZB or NF are the only other games in town either. Of course, there are lots of OTHER MP's and night clubs to choose from that offer on-premises entertainment but you could still even pick up chicas at places like the BM or KL. You'd just might have to take them back someplace other than your non-tica-friendly hotel (e.g. the Hotel Asia has short-term rooms right around the corner from the BM for just $10) And fourth, if you really like the HDR so much but don't want them showing up on your credit reports you could always pay your bill in cash. In fact, at some of the other TRULY chica friendly hotels (like the Castillo) you can get a pretty nice discount FOR paying in cash. |

There's an overarching issue not addressed here: credit card companies can fine-tune their reporting systems to show continuous use in SJ/Jaco or number of trips to CR (or any know mongering locale) in a given year, and use that info against you. It would then be up to you to prove them "wrong"( legitimate business use, etc). Please, I'm not given to paranoid fantasies but data-miners and/or data-aggregators could combine data from more than 1 CC and sell the attendant conclusions to any interested party--what's really to stop them? There is a market these days for any potentially revenue-raising data. I'd dearly love to be wrong on this--but don't think I am. |

In case you guys get in touch with the credit bureau, will you please let them know that the radio transmissions to my tooth are not letting me sleep. The aluminum foil on top of my head did not stop the radiation and Elvis want me to join his band. You think the CC companies can help? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

If you stay at the Holiday Inn, the $70 per chica fee will show up on your credit report ![]() ![]() |

This should be in the Funny & SmackTalk forum. This is the funniest thing I have ever read. Dude, just stay home, the stress of CR will kill you. |

As I readjust my tinfoil hat, it seems to me that the "land of the free" is becomeing less and less so. Sure, you can still do the things you like, but expect everything you do to be scrutinized and used against you. The credit bureaus are just one example. I suggest you cover anything you don't want to explain with cash. |

Paranoid? And yet there it is in Businessweek: "credit card companies tracking massage parlor charges." Yet, having said that I too would doubt there is any credit card link to HDR and most other hotels down there. I work with privacy data and computer security on a daily basis and I can tell you there is no credit link to hotels in CR only because tracking that kind of data on an international basis is too expensive and complex for the credit card companies. JazzboCR, I'm glad you have an appreciation for the power of information but you're speaking greek to the other posters here. |

Post subject: | Credit Scores and credit card ripoffs |
Anyone who is familiar with the credit score system and how credit card companies function knows how unfair they are. They are set up to generate obscene profits for the banks and turn the middle class into indentured servants. The only thing that should be allowed is your bill paying history and your income. Unless strict regulations are passed to control these abuses, America will soon be a third world country with only filthy rich and dirt poor. Prime at 2% but credit card interest rates at over 30% while savings accounts pay under 1% and the interest is taxed? Great system. Goetz |
