As it's been some time since I've flown internationally, what exactly are the rules for liquor in carry-on bags? I know all liquids, gels, etc. can be no more than 3 ounces each, and have to all fit in a 1 liter plastic bag.
Does that mean I can pack four or five vodka or rum 'minis', which are
50 ml (1.7 ounces) each, in the plastic bag? Or, is ALL liquor only allowed
to be purchased in the gate area at the duty-free shops? I used to take a flask full of Ron Centenario in my carry-on bag, but I guess that's out of the question now.

YO my old friend:

No longer can you take alcohol drinks in your carry on. Shit, really pisses me off. Only way is to check in luggage which is a bitch since I travel lightly. You can also empty small bottles (i.e. 1 to 2 ounces) of over the counter liquids and pour in a clear alcohol. Then place them in the bag that they require going through with your medicine. Hell, I've even put full mini vodkas in the damn things and they passed. Just a roll of the dice.

BUT !!! If you place a few minis in your back pockets the walk thru scanner does not detect them. A wand detector will but that is not used in most airports.

I always pack about 6 or 7 empty minis in my carry on luggage and then buy my booze in the country I arrive in. Fill the little bottles and cut my expenses at the bars. I do buy the first drink as a courtesy to the establishment then buy chaser later using my refilled mini bottles for the drinks. That's why fellow CR members always see old Circus with a carrying bag.

Another way is to empty a bottle of rubbing alcohol, wash and let dry out. Then pour a clear alcohol (VODKA pr whatever) into it and cut a new tin foil cap along with neatly placing scotch tape around the bottom of the cap. This has worked for me on most trips.

Just used this method for my cruise last week and it worked fine.

Old Circus really gets off when he can fool those airport hacks. Not to mention drinking my 99 cent vodka mini on the plane instead of paying 5 bucks.

Works for me.

I've been drinking vodka every day for 45 years and I have certainly never found it to be habit forming.

You can pack liquor on your carry-on if you buy at at the duty free store in the airport and fly non-stop to your destination in the states. They'll bring it right to the gate for you. Any connection before or in the states and you're screwed. But if you're flying directly to, say, Atlanta, Lauderdale, or wherever and staying there you're fine.
