When in CR. (or in general) what's your typical drink? and what do most of the chicas seem to get when you buy them drinks? At least i'll know what to get ya if we meet up. For me, I like Mojitos in the summer days, tequila (patron) or some good ol jack and coke. IF i want to celebrate or im feeling good, a nice bottle of Don P will do. CHEERS!

Centenario/coka light is often their drink. For stocking the mini-bar: Centenario/coka light Jaggermeister/Red Bull (get Maxx, its much cheaper) Rock Ice Vodka/Cran or Orange Whiskey - Johnnie Walker is fairly cheap and they like it. Patron is very expensive in CR. Best liquor selection I have found is at Auto Mercado just west of the San Pedro mall (maybe 1 1/2mi from the DR). Unless you are long on time, shots are a good way to go. I don't know how many drinks I have thrown out the next day because I never gave her the opportunity to drink the damn thing.

Ask the clerk at the duty free for the rules on quantity. |

Even at Duty Free, I believe Patron was over $60 and about the same as at Auto Mercado, San Pedro, the only other place I could find it. They also have Jagger which can be hard to find. |

I often find it amusing and strange that guys won't try the local drinks when they're in C.R., sticking with their Crown and Cokes or their foo-foo drinks. 
"When in Rome..." I like the local rums, particularly the anejos, served with club soda and a twist of lime, or with ginger ale (which the locals call "gin") When stocking the fridge for your amigas, don't forget soft drinks like bottled water and juice drinks, such as Tropical brand. Believe it or not, I even had one chica ask if I had any milk in the fridge, as she wanted to settle a bad tummy. <insert semen joke here> I agree with I.D. that the duty-free shop is a great place to buy booze. But, if like me you get too eager to get to your ride into town and just can't manage time for a duty-free stop, all the larger grocery stores carry a nice selection of the most popular rums, vodkas, whiskeys and the like.

Um...not so much. I hit several looking for Jagger and Patron. Could not find in either of the downtown groceries that I tried and had a cabbie take me to a couple others, no luck. The Auto Mercado in San Pedro has about 80' of booze/wine rack while most places had about 20' of facing. |

Uh...if you had read my post, you'll notice I never mentioned either tequilas or NyQuil substitutes. You won't find absinthe, schnapps, Cointreau either...but you may find liquors not common in the U.S. such as pisco and agua ardiente (whoooooooo!) The Automercado near the police commissario NW of the Gulch had two full aisles of booze and wine the last time I visited there, and even the little Mas X Menos near the Presidente had a respectable selection, albeit a small one.

Damn good advice fellas.. Ciego, Im def. trying out the local brew. I was just saying what my fav's are, after the trip i might have some new ones
Jagger and Maxx sound good, get the chicas juiced up. I might try to purchase some bottles in the U.S airport before i depart from my airport and take over there (if allowed?)...I'll bring the JW blue label for my compadres

A $25 bottle of crown in the the US is $14 at the airport duty free. I know because whiskey is very expensive at the HDR. ( along with everything else) |

As far as I know, there aren't that many "local drinks" besides the local beers and rums, and of course, Guaro. Man does not live by these selections alone! When I arrive at the airport, I pick up a bottle each of Rum, Bailey's, Kahlua, and a half gallon of Stoli. Sometimes, I buy wine, as well. I set up a bar in my room and play host to any chica that is willing to enter my room (i.e., any chica I give money to  ) . The girls enjoy this, as do I. A good white russian (or switch the kahlua for baileys) slakes the palate and and lubricates the mojo.
