I have a bunch of household stuff that I would like to have in CR, maybe 200lbs. What is the best way to get it there? UPS it to myself for pick-up or to my Los Yoses address? Thanks in advance... ![]() |

I would think shipping it to the airport station is usually the best option.Just have them put hold for you on it. Fed Ex (my preference, they are a client) can let you know when they clear customs by email update. But so can UPS.I have shipped personal belongings with both when moving from the US to SEA. Using the way I mentioned.Never had a problem.Stay dry up there. |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sybian Wow! You got to be careful shipping some items. The customs may try to charge you a 100% import tax. They got me good on my first shipment. I had many items shipped to my MBE box in Rohrmoser. You need to put in an invoice with a low used item amount . Also it helps to throw some old items such as used tennis shoes in with any new items . I am Platinum with Delta so I can bring Three 75 pound suitcases without extra charge. Never volunteer any info at the check in counter at any airline. They may refuse passage of any item of any reason. You and your friends checking these item may be a way if it is possible. That has been my easiest way. |

Taking it with you as checked baggage on the airline could be a good option. If you compare the "excess" baggage fees, although outrageous, may still be less than freight charges. Also, you usually don't have the "import" issues that you might have with shipped goods with accompanied baggage. Of course, 200lb extra is quite a bit. You may need to invite some friends to visit you in CR & bring some of your stuff with them! If you can get 50lb worth to me next week & I can carry TWO bags to CR instead of one. ![]() Myself & several of my coworkers travel alot for work & we are constantly consolidating baggage allowances and ferrying stuff around for each other. |

UPS is very expensive. There is a company in Miami called Carga Tica. If you UPS to Miami they will ship by air for 90 cents/Lb or by Boat (2 weeks including customs clearance) for 10 cents/Lb. As far as taxes, you need to ask them what they recommend you do. Pat is the lady to ask for. I am not in my offfice right now, so I don't have the phone number. If you are interested, PM me and I'll get it to you Friday during the day. |

Pac...love your idea of 'household stuff' ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() If you decide to bring that thing in your checked baggage, please let me know. I will be at the airport to greet you just to see the customs people questioning what in the world that thing is and is that a 'personal item' or do we need to charge tax or what!!! But seriously, it's gotta be the cheapest option. Extra baggage charge will beat shipping/tax easy. |

"Of course, 200lb extra is quite a bit. You may need to invite some friends to visit you in CR & bring some of your stuff with them!" You can take just a bit over 200lbs on coach flight...another 80 w/ 1st class just paying additional bag charges. My race bikes are 230 so I have to take off the tires just to get it onboard. |

UPS charges $507. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Check with a mail forwarding company like Aerocasillas. I had a new computer & monitor, a little over 20 kilos, shipped to their Miami operation last month. They received it, in Miami, at 9:00 AM Tuesday morning. They shipped to CR, cleared through customs and delivered to my door at 7:30 AM Thursday morning. Total cost just a shade over $130.00. ![]() |
