What is up with this series of attacks on our forum lately? Will these guys ever give up trying to trash our forum? Are any of our members stupid enough to click on any of their "videos" and other links? What should we or can we do to end these irritations? |

Happens to every forum and it is rarely a human. Instead its a bot that is scripted to dump the information. Spammers cracked Microsoft's CAPTCH code in 60 seconds. Google's takes them a whopping 90 seconds. It is apart of the internet now. Even when Admin upgrades the boards to the latest version of the PHPBB it will still happen. So your best solution is learn to ignore it and don't click the links. Cheers! |

Yeah, I realize how it works, but it is still a human that writes the code and sets it loose. Maybe these things have been hitting this forum for a while now and I just hadn't noticed, but this the 2nd or 3rd time I've seen this happen in just the last month or so. It offends me as much as all those vi@gra and penis enlargement e-mails that I get in my Spam filter. |

This is a sarcastic answer but it still holds true from when I read it on a Dilbert strip about 4 years ago. Pointy haired boss asked Dogbert how to protect the company from the internet. Dogbert walked to the router and unplugged it. Sadly, that is the only way to avoid spam these days. It's now a billion dollar industry to those that send it and those that produce products that "protect" us from it. It is never going away. ![]() |

We run the latest version but as fast as we upgrade the spammers / NOT HUMAN bots run their scripts... We ban the IP's the domains, ETC, delete the threads as fast as we can but until such time as a new security feature is put in place to prevent spam bots, they will pop up from time to time. They are rarely up for more than few hours at which time I take appropriate action. I do my best.... |

True true. I still say unplug the server. Less stress for you. ![]() |
