Well seems my plans are officially changed. My gf managed to get the week off and will be accompanying me to sjo. Everything I have learned on crt regarding mongering is a no-no. However I feel that I have learned enough from this site to be able to have eight great non-mongering days along with my gf in sjo. The only thing that sucks is that I won't be able to pull out my crt card to get the discounts in front of her. I won't even think of bringing it along. I have to email Dennis at Freebird and cancel my resv as we will do the backpacking eco tourism thing. Oh well, maybe next year. |

You should go for an early morning walk, get to NF as soon as they open at 9:00, have a half-hour session cut short to a quick 20 minute BJ and Phuck. If you stay someplace like Hotel Don Carlos, Clarion, Hemingway, etc. - a hotel in Barrio Amon - you could be walking into your room 1/2 hour after you left, and if your GF is the type to primp even just a little you can say you are going to get some fresh fruit or something so you'll have it when she is ready to go. I doubt most gringas would even think about you getting some action in the morning. Don't give up so easily. |

Don't give up so easily. HToad, This is some great advice from Crookedcr. Remember - where there's a will, there's a way! Like he said - "Don't give up so easily"! MG ![]() |

Of all places, SJO? I suggest getting out of SJO as much and/or as fast as possible. Such a beautiful country with so much to offer for a short trip like that, and it will help you with the temptation. But hey, last time I was in L'Uomo in Rio there was a couple there with the girls... give it a shot!!! Bring her to ZB!!! I'd wait until the end of the trip though, just a small chance that might not work out... ![]() |

Dude if you got 8 days and your old lady is gonna be with you you should leave SJO and go somewhere like Nosara where there is a clean beach and Island like atmosphere. My Wife is coming w/ me next Jan and thats where were going. I have the hook-up for a ride down there for $150... 5 hour ride, let me know if your interested. |

Have to concurr...SJO is not city for a romantic couples holiday. Thats why most tourists go to Guanacaste, the Caribbean coast or the Volcano. Enjoy. |

I hope it's via helicopter ![]() It is also $150 (per person) for a twin engine flight to Nosara from SJO but Im not sure about that old clunker plane w/ a captain that speaks no english. My dad had one of those things catch fire upon landing once! Im sure you could find a cheaper ride... some people will drive a mile to save a buck! But $150 for a 5 hour ride in a nice mini-van w/ only you and your friends or girl... works great for me! |

I was planning this trip for months and was set to do it alone. Last minute change in plans due to her. She and I get along great so no big deal. We'll have fun. I am not sure how to go about CR roughing it on the cheap. I bought Fodor's guide to CR and it has some sample itineraries that look pretty boring. I am actually trying to find a town or city to centralize ourself in that has plenty of hostels, eco adventure day trips (whitewater rafting, atv, canopy tours, volcano, thermal waters) great nightlife for couples and open cafes nearby kind of like Quito in Ecuador. I know this isnt going to be cheap either but it might work out easier on my pockets to go with her because we split the costs on everything. Any suggestions would be nice. |

La fortuna/Arenal area would fit the bill....lots of eco type activities...horses...waterfalls...hot springs....volcano.... Lots of places to stay cheap.... Arenal Backpackers Resort in La Fortuna is a good deal but usually close to full. Nice pool even. Very close to walk around the town of La Fortuna, it is the base for signing up for all activities in the area. Lots of good local restaurants, stay away from the tourist traps, eat at the sodas. Taking the bus from San Jose is about a 6 hour trip but only cost about $3.75 or so. Beautiful trip into the moutains and then you see the Volcano looming ahead. Meet a smoking hottie on the bus but that is another story. http://www.arenalbackpackers.com/home.html Have fun!!! |

Thanks PDSurf. Arenal and La Fortuna should be exactly what we are looking for. |

If you have a car, I would highly recommend the Hotel Termales del Bosque located 35 miles from La Fortuna. It is on the road between Cuidad La Quesada and Aguas Zarcas. The cost is about $60 per night for Two, including a full cooked breakfast. The remarkable thing about this place it that it has some of the finest hot springs in CR, without the hype of Tabacon or the cost. Hot Springs use is free to hotel guests, or a paltry 5000C for the day for non guests. There are good cheap restaurants in La Quesada as well. The La Marina wildlife reserve is 2 miles from Los Termales etc. This location puts you in a great hub for seeing Arenal volcano, Lake Aenal. La Paz Waterfall Park and other prime destinations at potential cost that is lower that being directly in La Fortuna or the Arenal core area. |

Don't dwell on what you can't do. Treasure what you can. You can still buy fake Cubanos right on the street, be robbed by a machete weilding punk and be charged gringo prices. |
