I don't know about text messaging. But you can use AT&T phone in CR, provided it's GSM service (sim card inside the phone) and a phone that works on the 1800Mhz frequency/band. You'd need a tri- or quad-band phone. And you must contact AT&T to turn on international roaming or whatever it's called. It's like $5/month plus the calls are charged at like $2.29/min. It's pricey. |

My experience is that texting will not work to or from CR. I know texting works both ways in Guatamala and the Dominican Republic, FWIW. BTW, that charge of $2.29 is for incoming or outgoing calls. If you leave your phone ON and someone calls you and hits your voicemail, you are charged the $2.29 for each minute the person talks in your VM. So, I suggest you leave your phone OFF unless you need it. If your phone is off the caller goes direct to VM and the charge will not apply...until of course you check your VM, then you are charged for the time you use checking the messages. If messages can wait then check them when back in the states. dapanz1 |

Yes, you can text internationally - the sole reason I switched from verizon to at&t was for the complete coverage offered throughout Latin America. Be sure to call them and add the international texting feature to the service package you presently have. |

Is this seperate from the International Roaming package? If so, I would like to add it to my account. |

I am not sure but texting may work now in CR. My last trip in February they finally had internet service which allowed my emails to work on my phone. This would lead me to believe texting may work. |

My Razr phone with A.T. & T. works fine in CR. But as others have said, you must call A.T.T. and have them activate the Int'l Long Distance & Roaming feature. I believe the cost is 3.99 per month for this feature. Long distance calls to the states cost 2.29 per minute. Calls from the states to CR cost 27 cents per minute. It's cheaper for me to call CR on my cell phone than a land line. Good luck. MG ![]() |

If you have the international blackberry service for your smart phone or blackberry text messaging will work in CR. If you have Wi fii on your cell phone use Skycape for all your incoming calls much cheaper. |
