You must have a nice play to pay $900. I thought most are in the $500-600 range. |

$900.00 a month unfurnished in San Pedro is extraordinary so I must assume the place is really top notch. That price is more Santa Ana than San Pedro. |

CR can be cheap, but I found it really hard to keep the costs that low... Before I bought my house I always lived in cheap tico places, ranging from $220/mo to $280/mo for 2 bdr houses and apartments. As far as food/drink/party budget goes, sky is the limit. The $100 internet+cable bill is one of the bigger ones too. |

Photos will be up tonight. I looked around a lot and would estimate this place would be $1,300-$1,500 in Santa Ana. Greengo, I love the San Pedro (Vargas Araya) area. So, as always YMMV. Luck |

Luck4unme, It looks like each condo is seperate from each other in your pics. You got a nice pad, nice car and looks like great complex you live in. Gated Do you have a garage for your car or does it set outside every night? Just wondering about theft, thanks for the pics |

Devo Most upscale residential neighborhoods and condo complexes in San Jose employee armed private security guards ![]() Darn, come to think about it that was the case also in South Florida when I lived there ![]() |

No one in CR parks their car on the street at night. The car must be locked up in a secure jail cell like setting just like the people do. |

Mi casa in Cartago is $600/month and it is top notch for Cartago. Admittedly, you would need to drive into SJO (30 minutes with normal traffic) for any action. So, that is something to take in to account. The other expenses seem reasonable. As for the armed guard at $20, I believe it. In Cartago the armed guard is about $20/month but, this dude isn't exactly your own personal guard. He deals with the whole neighborhood. Our guy is cool. Give him some colones and he takes his bike up to the pulperia, buys what I need and then brings it back. dapanz1 |

My place is a free standing house. Not a condo. The parking structure is not built yet. They are starting next month. The car is parked in the "gated jail" but as of now is not covered. My rent is very reasonable considering the quality of the house. It would be 25-30% more west of San Jose in the gringo areas. The domestica only comes once a week for approx 6 hours. She would gladly come more often if I wanted her to. I did a lot of looking around before moving to this area. My life style is exactly what I was looking for and I think it's very reasonable. I have friends all over town and I would not trade my digs and life style with any of them. All of them have great places too. I just happen to like mine better. I would guess they like their's better. I have photos of the condo I lived in before moving to this house. It was $750 per/mo. and two blocks from where I live currently. I will post the photos if anyone is interested Pura Vida, Luck |

The saying is "Get out of the Gultch", but one can just as easily say "Get out of Escazu." I pay $750 a month for a 3-bedroom house in Tibas that would probably go for $1100 or more in Escazu or Santa Ana. This includes access to a swimming pool at the condo across the street. My neighborhood is middle class (not wealthy) Ticos. My neighbors include two doctors, a lawyer, an Oxford graduate and, until a couple months ago, the physical training coach for Saprissa. The neighborhood is clean and as close to absolutely safe as you will find in Costa Rica. Escazu and Santa Ana, etc. have more shopping and dining options. On the other hand, it's only a little more than 10 minutes from here to the HDR. It's definitely a YMMV situation--but I like where I am just fine. ![]() ![]() |
