If its rainy the last week of June and the first 2 weeks of July.
I heard the rain dosnt really start till mid July but wanted to ask you guys.

Could be raining every day or sunshine, or a mix. But if you're worried about it ruining your time there, don't. Take an umbrella and just use the cabs. I've never had a bad time because of the rain and by and large the girls work regardless. It's rarely a cold rain either. Most of the time it's actually pretty warm, or at least that's been my experience.

From my (admittedly limited) experience, it usually doesn't start raining until early afternoon, then is pretty much done by evening. Even at the height of the rainy season, the mornings in San Jose an environs are clear and pleasant.

I actually like the temporada verde... the rain washes the diesel smoke and other pollutants from the air, leaving it fresh and ionized. Also, sitting in the SL bar during a big storm can be a very cozy feeling. Yeah, you might need an umbrella in the afternoon...but you can always buy one from a street vendor for four bucks, should you get caught outside when the rain comes. Unless you're planning a lot of ATV tours, golf or other outdoor activities, the rain shouldn't confront you very much.

El Ciego has quite accurately described the normal rainy season, oops sorry Tourist Board "the green season" :roll:, in San Jose. Unfortunately San Jose is not immune to the wild weather patterns that we have seen all over the world lately.

Last year the rain came at all different times of the day including some days when it rained all day. Hopefully this year we will see a return to a more normal pattern but if we do not umbrellas are plentiful and cheap.

Yes I.D., it really blew me away last September when SJ had *hail* on two subsequent afternoons. Some of the rains I experienced during my ten days last September were absolutely torrential, real gully washers...and even with an umbrella, walking around was a very soggy proposition. My shoes still squeak from the water they took in during a walk from Soda Peru to the SL. :roll:

However, as I spend most of my C.R. time either in bars or between the sheets, the rain wasn't a real problem for me. :D

On one of my first trips down there it always amazed me how it would rain at almost the exact same time everyday for about 20 minutes, then stop.

it has varied in the 3.5 years ive lived here, but sometime in june/july we do have a little 2-3 week break from the rain ...

Yeah, the reason Im asking is my buddy and I are motocross racers and we are planning a trip to take our bikes and travel around CR for a month racing and riding. We have a race up here in Mammoth Lakes in mid June...Im hopeing to squeez in our trip right after Mammoth before the "green season is in full swing". Would we be better off to wait till october?

very cool. you will love CR for MX. well, more for enduro-style rides. dont come during october though. the rainy season is awesome for river rafting, but for MX, stick to december - may. june through august is cool, too, but u will have a few hours of rain during the afternoon. no prob though. definitely PM me if you and your friends are going to do any dirtbike tours. i am so down for that

With Google, you can easily find some websites that show rainfall over the year for every country.

Yea, last year I was there for he party when it rained all day. We loved it.
Walked all over town & sat in Sportsmans & listened to Mother Nature.
Made for some awesome afternoon sessions too.

I rented a bike down there last October. Bad idea, it rained the whole time. October is not the time of year to ride there. November would be better if you want to wait.

Veranilla = "Little Summer." During normal climatic cycles, this dry and sunny break in the rainy season hits sometime around mid-July. If I had the wherewithall to do so, I'd come down on July 15th and stick around through the end of July. I've been told it's a great time for outdoor activities.

As El Ciego says, July is what they call the "little dry season". Typically, this is when the Tico's plan to fix their roofs that they discovered had a new leak during the last few months ;)

However, last year was a very weird summer for rainfall from what i've heard. It was more rainy than usual (though still usually only raining in the afternoon). There was one rainfall that was so bad it actually collapsed the wall around my condo.
