Casinos can be fun. Don't gamble at Del Rey, they suck! If you happen to win there (which is not likely, they cheat), you will get your money, but they will try to make it a diffficult process.

Now, this will be my first trip to CR and I know that I have my limitations. You can tell yourself that it will be one non stop orgy while there but I'm not 18 anymore. So that brings a question to mind. What do the vets on this board do in the downtime while they are not helping international relations one tica at a time? I am trying to figure out some free time activities for myself. So, lets hear them.

I don't gamble but many of my friends do and I have noticed just how ridiculous they are to pay out when someone wins. I had one friend that had to wait 55 minutes to get $200 because they wanted to review the cameras. What an insult .

One thing that is highly underrated is just sitting in Del Rey and watching "the show" or "the parade". We have spent many hours in the past just sitting at one of the tables.

The "gluch" isn't Costa Rica. Get on a bus... dirt cheap... and head out to parts unknown. Jump the bus to Cartago... see the big church... it's hard to get lost there. The town isn't SJO.

I'm am an old f*rt (60), so I attempt to keep up with the young bucks. In no particular order sex (I'm practicing moderation now; no more than three times a day; maybe ), drink (lots ), eat, walk around Calle 6 area and Paseo Colon during the day; then Tico strip club tour at night. After that return to KL to find that diamond in the rough for the last stand. Any time that is left, or in between, I can be found sniffing out some possibilities at the SL, if nothing there walk to the HDR/BM and look at the show. I usually operate on about 3-4 hours of sleep a day, and I need to drink more water next time. Health & happiness... Steve- Santas Bro

WOW !!! Good question, I know there are a lot of threads covering all of the subjects i am going to touch on here. I have been travelling to CR for over 3 years now, and have found several things to occupy my time from getting out of the gulch and seeing some sights such as Canopy Tours, ATV's, Volcano Tours, Waterfall gardens, overnight fishing trips to Jaco, Quepos and the Northern Coast. Besides the above, I have had a lot of dental work in CR which has limited me to staying in SJ for most if not all of my week long trips and have had a blast hanging out with the guys, touring massage parlors, hanging out at the SL, Del Rey or Zona Blue for a few hours. There are many more options that I have neglected to list, go by some of the above listed places and introduce yourself, CRT is a great group of guys always willing to help out and take a newbie under his wing. That depends a lot on what your interests are. Personally I love gambling so all the casinos are great fun. There's some decent touristy stuff to do in San Jose, with museums and stuff, and the national theatre is always showing decent plays and the national orchestra once or twice a week. There's plenty of daytrips (you can book through your hotel) to the various volcanos and stuff... Jaco and Puntarenas are daytrippable (but that's kind of a pain and an overnight is better). The coffee tour is nice if you're into that sort of thing. We really have all the same activities here as you can get anywhere... If you're into soccer maybe catch a game?

I'll repeat what has already been said. There are lots of good guys on CRT you will probably meet sometime along your journey. Hanging out is a good way to kill time. If you are interested in doing a tour (ATV, Canopy, volcano, etc), it's always much more enjoyable with a friend. You definiely don't want to sit in your room. If you are totally bored, just going to Avenida Central (central walking street) and people watching is fun. Casinos can be fun. Don't gamble at Del Rey, they suck! Play at Colonial down the street or the Horseshoe across the street. One thing that is highly underrated is just sitting in Del Rey and watching "the show" or "the parade". Offshore fishing is a great option. But, itâ€™s not cheap. Golf at Valle del Sol is a good option as well. You can rent clubs. There are probably other courses one can play in San Jose as well. If you do golf, I suggest bringing your own balls, golf glove and tees.

I took a tour of the city, visited the museums, visited the theatre, and enjoyed the sights at the plaza. In addition, I visited several good restaurants, and went shopping at the Central Market.

Other than banging chicas, I actually work a lot when I am down there. Since I work from home, as long as I have my laptop and an internet connection, I'm fine. I really enjoy what I do (it is a distant second to banging chicas) and when I am in CR in my apartment or hotel room there are few distractions. My schedule is usually something like this: wake up and handle personal hygine, do a little work go out and get some pusy at the Del Rey or an MP get some breakfast at SL do a little more work Go out for some more pusy (or have her come to me) do some more work. get some more pusy get some dinner hang out at the garden's bar (iI like their virgin bloody mary's) Go back to apartment or hotel and do some more work Go to sleep or get some late night pusy That is pretty much the perfect life for me. For some odd reason I am 2-4 times as productive with work in CR than I am in the U.S. I don't drink or gamble so those things are out. I would like to find a decent gym or judo/jujutsu club to work out with, but I suspect that if I found those things as well I would probably say Phuck it and just move down there permanently. The next time I go, I think I'll take some dance lessons. I have done the tourist stuff before, and that was also fun.

He kept drinking Coronas (over 30) the whole time and ended up winning a little over $1,500. Towards the end, they switched dealers on him every few minutes, shuffled every 6 hands, and all kinds of other shit to get him off his streak. Finally, they said he was cheating and told him to leave. At least they paid him.

Orange, What time do you usually get there to get a table? I have been several times (never before 10:00pm) and we have never had a chance to get a table.

On my last trip I hopped a bus out to the Morovia area. I'm out in the middle of nowhere after 50 minutes and as the bus is turning around on a dirt road. The driver says "this is it". I tell him I want to go back to SJO... I'm just exploring the countryside for fun. He picks up my gringo accent... we chat... I teach him some English and before you know it the guy is shaking my hand and thanking me when we get back. I have found the locals to be very friendly outside the city. I could care less about the tourist trap tours. Berk......

Many years ago when I first started making trips to Costa Rica I would grab a bus to various towns, walk around the main square with the park and church, every town has one and people watch chat with the locals sitting in the park. I went to Heredia, Alejuala, Grecia and Alajuelita that way. You can easily do Grecia, Ciudad Colon, Puriscal, Santa Ana, etc. the same way. Grab the bus after breakfast, hit the town walk around take some pictures, grab lunch at a local soda and head back to San Jose. You will be back in the early afternoon leaving plenty of time for mongering. It is a great and cheap way to see the country and learn a lot about Ticos.
