Post subject:  Costa Rica Zip Code?

I was helping a friend set up a Yahoo email. The sign up requires a zip code for Costa Rica.

Anyone know what it is?

Thanks

Just as there are no real addresses (street name and # as in the USA, there is no zip codes. There is no mail delivery here; only PO boxes in the post offices and courier delivery. Actually someone did tell me that there is mail delivery to business down town, but i have never seen any evidence of this.

ZIP code is a USA thing only. Lots of websites require zip codes even when you select a foreign country. I just use the code from my last place in the states. Bad data input screen design will never die.

You can use 1000 for San Jose.

Errr...

Of course there is mail delivery, within costa rica you can write the long ass street address (yes the one with all the directions) and it will get delivered to the persons door, pretty quickly too.

There are also plenty of zip codes, for example San Jose is 1000 and Heredia is 3000.

For the purposes of signing up to something online though, it doesn't really matter what you put, if it requires zip code when you enter a foreign country, that's just bad programming.

Can also attest to the fact that there is mail delivery in Costa Rica. I receive mail frequently. You have to use your Tico style address.

When a site demands a zip code I just use 00000 and most sites accept that. While the official San Jose code may be 1000 many sites will reject that as not having enough digits.

Costa Rica does have mail delivery and zip codes. In fact, as I understand it, Costa Rica is working on moving to a street address and zoned zip code system; however, such is very expensive.

If Costa Rica does have a formal zip code system, which I doubt, it is not used. My mail as well as that of my neighbors arrives without any postal codes in the address. The only numerals are those signifying the numbers of meters and direction from a given reference point.

If you are referring to the Apdo number you see in some addresses that is the Post Office box number not a zip code.
