Post subject:  Posting problems

Recently I've started having problems posting here. After I write a post,it takes numerous clicks on the "submit" button to actually post anything. Am I the only one having this problem,or is it another AOL glitch? It says that it is an "Invalid session. please submit the form."

I get it on occasion. The server lost your session identifier. The identifier is what is stored locally on your computer and is sent to the server so the server knows who you are. When you submit again, after the invalid session message, behind the scenes, a new session is created and then you can post again.

It is a bit scary if you've typed a lot and you fear losing all of the text you've labored over for the last whatever minutes.

If I write a lot and it has taken me a while to write it, I copy my text before I submit it.

Your session can be lost if you take too long to type your post. Say you are just slow typing, slow thinking, slow to edit, slow to get your message perfect or you might not be slow.... the phone could have rang while you were in the middle of typing your post so you let it sit, came back later to finish it (it that time, while you were gone, your session identifier on the server expired and so was deleted).

Given the scenario, Prolijo probably gets the invalid session message ALL THE TIME!!! :) Prolijo has probably learned to type his messages in Word or Wordpad so this won't happen to him..... anymore. LOL!

Oh, sometimes the server can reestablish the session without you knowing. It actually depends on the browser you are using and if you've asked the browser to store your ID and PW.

I have found that if you have to log in again, log in, and hit the refresh button (arrow back) a couple of times until you get back to your post, and it is then accessible to edit, preview, or post.

I always copy the post prior to using the preview, just in case.

Happy holidays......

I used to have frequent problems with posting and getting logged out until I changed my log in procedures. No longer do I log in from the "Welcome to CRT" page (where you can access photos, etc). Rather now, I simply log on to the index page. Since then, I have never been logged off, nor have I had problems with my posts. Life has gotten better.

CiaoCiao...good idea.

Here's a strange artifact of the PHP BBS system that I can't figure out how to handle. If I try to log into the "Welcome to CRT" VIP Login, it doesn't accept my new (changed) password, but every third try, it accepts the old one! I always log in via the index page, using my changed PW.

Regarding timeouts: Except for short posts such as this one, I always use WordPad (Not MS WOrd) to prepare the post, then copy/paste to the PHP form here on CRT. Saves a lot of aggravation. :D

Feliz Navidad.

I.E. has that problem. But Firefox keeps your post in cache...

Ever since I discovered that, I stopped using I.E. for CRT... Added bonus, I clear out my cache every time I close Firefox, and my history is also cleaned...

I don't like people knowing where I've been...

Only problem is that the formatting SUCKS for firefox...

One way around the timeout problem is to hit submit, then it asks you to log in again. Log in. Then hit the back arrow till you get to original 'post a reply' screen with all your typing. Click on submit again and it'll submit. Easier than using word or whatever.

OK Lets address the same subject now for the 1000th Time... Gentlemen I am really getting tired of covering the same subjects over and over again especially since it is all written here already.

First Off I will be re-writing the rules regarding the Forum & the VIP Forum they will be up in the next day or so....

Now:
AOL USERS BE DAM how many times do I have to say DO NOT USE AN AOL BROWSER not only is it the most screwed up browser ever created it does not function well with PHBB software which the board uses. Even if you are logged on to AOL launch the Internet Explorer browser it will eliminate all the problems with having to logon multiple times.

Firefox Not formatted for the home page... I am aware of this and have been aware of this. We are re-writing the entire code for the web site that will give CRT a new look & feel that will make all browsers work very well 1st quarter of 2008 is the goal. Firefox still works perfectly and is the preferred browser for the forum.

Time out issues. The server is fine, there are no problems posting... UNLESS you go over your 12 minutes between posting something or moving through a page. Since the PHBB software the board uses is open source it takes on any given day up to 20 different spam attemps, bots etc that not only put a tremendous load on the server but bandwidth as well. If you plan on typing something that may excede the logout time then type it in a word processing program of your choice and cut and paste it to the response and or new post your creating.

This above is necessary unless you want the server down continuously as "Spam Bots" and or web search "bots" stay in the system forever unless you put time out issues on the sessions... THERE IS NOTHING TO DO but see above...

Sorry I'm cranky and stuck in the airport again phucking delays from AA are rediculous....

Gentlemen this issue has been covered...

I have been having major problems but right now I'm on my son's computer and all is well with CRT and my ability to log on. I even had support from HP and they couldn't get me logged on to CRT!

I'm sorry Daddy..... I promise to be good, and not to bring up the subject again. Please don't spank me again.

By the way Admin 1 you may want to go check the thread on "Legends of CRT" because someone just recommended "Astroglide" and wants to know where he has been.
