Post subject: | Getting Sick |
I'm healthy, right wgt, eat good, have regular check ups and I usually don't get sick while at home, but nothing keeps me well for the long term during mongering trips. Anyone else have trouble not catching a cough or a cold or the flu on nearly every trip? For me, sooner or later the combination of girls, air con, portable fans (blowing air in my direction) and hot humid conditions catches up to me. Anyone else? |

I travel a LOT (40 trips this year, albeit domestic) and I have two, possibly three, key pieces of advice. 1. Drink TONS of water when you first land. I've just shut down on elevation/humidity changes. It takes 3 days to acclimate. Just drink lots and lots of bottled water, your body wil sort it out. I'm not saying not to booze up, but drink water TOO. 2. If you feel like you need to take a nap, take a damn nap. These trips are supposed to be fun. Even when Im working, i find that I can slip away for 90 minutes and recharge. Without getting into too much detail, this really helps fend off some of the worst symptoms of travelitis. 3. When you first get to a hotel, turn the thrermostat down to about 68, take off your shoes, and just grab the carpeting with your toes for 5 minutes. Sounds stupid, but it works. I'm sure there is some feng shue thing about it, but also open up your damn window and let the natural light hit your retinas for about 5 minutes. Don't know why it works, it just does. Also- always pack immodium, and drink some OJ. |

Being a smoker...I've had similar problems especially in Amsterdam. Seems whenever I travel for the 'hobby' I smoke more than normal and it often leads to bronchitis or a sinus infection for me. If your not a smoker, it may be because you are in smoky enviroments on these trips. Just my best guess. Like MKs tips...sound logical especially the drinking a LOT of water. That really seems to help a lot. |

Being a pilot I suggest " Airborne" effervescent dietary supplement. Mix with a glass of water before your flights and during your trip. Someone on your flight will have a bug and it spreads to you . The Airborne helps to keep you from getting it. You can get these at Walmart. It comes in tablets and powder. I like the lemon -lime. I hope it helps. H. |

For the past year, I have been spending approx 3 weeks in CR and 3-4 weeks in the US (Florida). It seems like each trip I either catch a cold or the gastritus bug in CR. The stomach bug lasts a day and with help from the local pharmacist the cold lasts 3 days. I'm not sure why this is, but it's frequent enough to be annoying. |

It has a more complete array of nutrients and vitamins, plus a the Electrolytes that are very important as well. I spend a lot of time on the road as well and I can not afford to get sick. I rely on this stuff when I am feeling run down. Coconut water is very nutritious and one of the best sources of natural electrolytes. I find the stuff amazing and drink it every chance I get. http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts-C00001-01c20oF.html I am not sure you will find an expert opinion anywhere suggesting that you should avoid melon and I don't understand the "mucous membrane" point. Please correct me if I am wrong. |

Yo Bro's, What ya need to do is build up your immune system. I, being a perverted plumber, lick the toilet seats every chance I get. And I do get quite a few chances each day. Also fondle ever dirty thing thing you can then lick your fingers. I've been sick free for years now. ( There's no help for my mind though ) The Nuck |

Try it Dont try it. Its just my non Ex Spurt input.Or is that out put. Getting laid will start one along the road to "getting a Life" though i have no scientific data to support this statement i feel it may be valid in many circumstances.
Where exactly did I claim to be an expert? The nutritional information provided on Coconut water is from a reliable source and speaks for itself. I invited you to provide information to back up your claims about about melons. I have never herd such claims. The claims make no sense to me (mucus membrane? huh?), but I am willing to be educated on the subject if you have some information from a reliable source that you want to share. Personally, I feel like the more fruit you eat, the better off you are, but I am not promoting that point of view. I don't see the point in taking the questioning and/or the opposing data personal. Rather than take it personal, why not provide a little backup if you know so much about the subject? Personally, I feel that good health is mostly psychological. That theory has worked well for me, but that is just me and I don't advocate it for others. I also agree on building up a strong immune system, but I am not licking toilets, thank you very much. |

The stomach bug lasts a day and with help from the local pharmacist the cold lasts 3 days. I'm not sure why this is, but it's frequent enough to be annoying. That's worrisome. I would think that with so much time there would become immune to the "local" germs after awhile. Maybe the flights are so germ infected you get it from the planes. C.R. has been ok to me but every trip beyond it to South Am. I always get a bad cold. I've used Airborne twice now to C.R. and twice now no serious colds. Need more trips to check out whether or not the Airborne actually works. |

Sorry, my bad. I was operating under the assumption that I was discussing the subject with a rational human. Thanks for setting me straight. I won't bother responding your posts again. Have a nice day. |

I've been coming down about every 2 months for years, and have tried Airborne, some essential oils(recommended by a friend), and vitamins with no positive results in avoiding illnesses. Now I just plan on not doing anything related to work for a week after my return. My guess is that it has to do with the different foods, water, bugs in the air, change in schedule, lack of sleep, excessive alcohol intake. Yet, in spite of all this, I keep going back |

I became friends with a terma girl in RIO in 2005 who spoke English. I asked her why so many of my friends were getting sick? She said it's from all the guys from all over the world bringing their germs to RIO. Something to think about. |

My two cents- if there's something in the air you are susceptible to you will get it. Try not to kiss during the first half of your trip. Kissing has to be the easiest way to pick something up so by avoiding it you at least might not get sick until you're on your way home. I would rather be sick at home than on a trip. There's a reason some girls avoid kissing. If you can avoid kissing altogether you are better off. I try, sometimes unsuccessfully, not to kiss until my last couple days on a trip. Bring extra toothbrushes and mouthwash. Most girls are happy to use it. It can't hurt. Also, get a flu shot once a year, especially during this type of season. |
