Bought a CR Pineaplle at Walmart in the states for $2.50 today. Dole. Delicious. But, that's the same price I paid in Quepos last month. Can anyone explain that?

Price of pineapples has skyrocketed in the past week. Saturday July 9 pineapples were the usual price at the Pavas feria which is 400 to 600 colones depending on size. Yesterday they were all 1000 colones at the feria and 995 at Walmart. So if you paid $2.50 (1250 colones) they went up 25% in just one day.

Have no idea why.

Probably pineapple futures are gyrating wildly for some reason.

I am currently in David, Chiriquí (Panama). My lady bought two piñas for $1.50 a few days ago. Not a bad deal then! :-)

Mongering scene here in David is scarce, but noticed many "chicas malas" inside casinos. Most local girls were asking for $60 dollars. One Colombiana looking girl asked for $80.

When I get to work tomorrow I'll see what we paid for those pineapples. A lot depends on what grade they are there is more than one grade. We could just be using them as a draw or we could be using them to make up for what we lose on strawberries. More than once I've worked up the numbers of how much money we would save if we just quit selling strawberries. I once proposed that we give everybody two dollars that comes in the door and tell them to go next door to buy strawberries we would actually save money.

Man I must be bored !

Dude ! I got back from the USA on July 5th and I felt like I am in a time warp. I went to AM/PM and two avocados rang up at 2000 colon ! I put them back and thought I would buy a bag of 6 at Pricesmart for a lower price.

Well, my basket at Pricesmart rang up at 80,000 colon. My girlfriend wanted to put everything back and go back to ole-school- Saturday morning markets etc.

Really. Things here seemed to have gone up 20-45% in a month !

The only place to buy fruit is from a fruit guy, all the mercado prices aren't that great. Beach locations, if you buy some fruit from a pulperia, super or mercado.. expect to pay high prices.

I can still get 3 or 4 pineapples for 1000 from the guy up the road from my house, parks his truck there nearly every day. I am starting to see some early mamones chinos now, 1000 for a kilo, I love those things.
