Me and a couple of buddies are coming down for a few weeks and we are gonna stay in a condo in Escazu. The people we are renting it from told us we are about 15 minutes from "the gulch". Have any of you had any problems when you tell the girls that you are staying in Escazu (or 15-20 minutes away) and them not wanting to go since it's not one of the hotels that's close right around the gulch? I wouldn't think this is a big deal but I'm just curious if any of you have ever had a problem.

Most of the time not but you are going to have to pay for a taxi back for them.

The 15 minutes you were quoted was perfect driving conditions. Figure on doubling that or more at peak times.

Every once in a while a girl will balk at travelling outside of the gulch hotels. Usually they are the rush and gush type and probably best avioded. I have taken over a hundred girls back to Rohrmoser and escazu and probably had 10 or so decline. 3 or 4k colones in cab fare is reasonable to get them back to the gulch maybe 5k if you are up in the hills.

When they hear Escazu they will think big dollars, it is like telling a South LA hooker you live in Beverly Hills. Best to negotiate price first then tell her where you are staying.

I also mostly arranged TLNs, depending on where you live Taxis for the girls late night may be a problem.

My first trip to CR (in 2005), we rented a house in Heredia and had some trouble convincing the girls to come back. I think it's a bit further than Escazu though. Also, 15-20 minutes may be in the middle of the night. Try 30-40 in the daytime. A few girls said that it's too far and would waste too much time and a few said that they do not go to private housing for security reasons, only hotels. Bktuna is right, now that I think about it, they seemed like the rush types.

Remember, everything is negotiable. It may not be necessary, but I'm sure enough colones will convince them to go.

Hahahaha...yes I live in Escazu and I LOVE IT. However I would NOT recommend renting here for a couple of weeks' vacation, especially if you haven't been here a few times. I suggest you stay at a Gulch hotel (Sportsmans or Clarion would be my 2 choices) so that you can take in the true mongering experience day and night. Chicas, both good and bad, would rather be with you in a hotel nearby for the safety issue and the time involved. It's not as much of an issue when you live here because the chicas tend to know you and aren't in fear for their safety. They also can see the possibility of repeat business. Another issue is how you will spend your time. If you stay in Escazu, you tend to go into town and not return until you are done for the day. It's a bit of a pain in the ass to go back in a taxi just to take a shower for example. In a SJ hotel it's easy. My suggestion would be to split up the time. Maybe stay at a hotel for the first half of the trip then move to the condo for the last part. Then you will know your way around and have met some chicas that you like to get you on your way to Paradise. If and when you are staying at the cono,PM me and I will give you the phone number of a taxi service that is open 24/7 and won't rip you off. This is VERY important especially late at night when you want you "novia of the day" to just go home so you can go to sleep.

I appreciate all the responses. I have been to Costa Rica 2 times before so I have enjoyed staying in the gulch. We stayed at the Sportsmen's in the penthouse last time we were there. There are 3 of us this time and the condo has 3 bedrooms and bathroooms and was going to cost us $1,500 for 2 weeks. That's the reason we were looking into it. I know you can't beat the Sportsmen's for the atmosphere, easy access to the chicas, GOLDEN TEE :D , etc... but I guess I will probably end up staying there again as it seems like it will be a pain in the a$$ staying in the condo. Also, I will be coming down the live for 6-8 months next fall and I might PM a couple of you "pros" who know the ropes well for some information. Thanks again.

I stayed in La Uruca, and did not have a problem.
