Do they have a VA medical facility in San jose??

No. If you are retired there is Tri-Care.

Umm.. why would there be a VA facility outside of the US? That just doesn't even make any sense. It's like asking if Costa Rica has free hospitals in the US ;)

Having said that, yes. It's true, Veterans face certain challenges in moving to costa rica, since the VA often frowns upon getting external care for specific injuries.

I have a friend that was injured in GW1 and if he gets private treatment, the VA will no longer treat his injury. That sucks.

Try Phillipines (Manilla). Yes the PI is the one country outside the US of A that actually has a VA center. This is due to the historically high # of Filipino members of our armed forces.

There may be no actual VA facility in CR, but there is Hospital Cima and there is quite a bit of VA funded treatment that goes on there. There is a Veterans service officer in the hospital lobby and he is quite helpful. He is retired Air Force and was the US Ambassadors Pilot for his stint in Vietnam. He is also the Commander of the American Legion Post in Costa Rica. If you desire more info or wanna talk to a heck of a nice guy, stop and see him.

YO Vet Care:

Shit, tens of thousands of Vietnam and other war vets can't get health care in this country.....let alone in other countries. Thanks to our government for placing a net worth ceiling on requirements in February of 2003. Unless you don't own hardly anything and are homeless....you are shit out of luck by not applying before 2003.

FYI there are places in the world that have VA facilities. The PI is one that even though our major bases are gone still have VA benefits available. Many places that have or had Military bases have so many vets retiring there that benefits are available.

Not sure what you mean by VA funded treatment. From what I have been told they only treatment that the VA will pay for is for disability service connected treatments. They will not fund routine non service related illness.

Also they no longer bill Tri-Care for treatment of retirees you now have to pay for the treatment and seek reimbursement from Tri-Care.
