P55, I am so with you on that. Also the disproportionate numbers of vets that are homeless. There are actually 1500 homeless vets from the Iraq war. That is just wrong! It is a disgrace! |

It's impossible to really comment on this without breaking the rules of the board about politics. ![]() |

Regardless of politics, our government needs to step up and take care of these fine young people. We need to demand it! This is not a Right / Left issue. Both parties share culpability in this failure! Those that play politics with the lives of our veterans are the lowest form of scum. Demo Congress can pass and law and fund it. Rep president can fix it with an executive order. Truth is, neither side really gives a shit because we don't hold them accountable. |

Dear Circus: Thank you for a post to learn from. I for one much appreciate the sacrifices that have come before me - from my great times X grandfather who fought for the crown in the war against the colonies to the one grandfather who fought in the Somme in WWI to my other grandfather who fought for the USA in the air force in WWII I am continually disheartened by the new attitudes. I can't tell how many newbie veterans I have talked to who are excited that they "get to kill other people" etc. I think the men who came before us were the real men of men. I don't know about this younger generation. |

Thanks for posting this Circus. I heard a stat on the news a couple days ago that 25% of the homeless in America are Vets...and I'm quite sure a majority are Nam vets. I have been to Vet facilities to assist family members...and believe me, they are no fun to be at. Our government is so quick to spend billions on wars and rebuilding Europe and elsewhere through the Marshall plan...but they continue to reduce Vet benefits and let our government facilities and services go to hell. This is just absolutely wrong. It is not a political issue. Finally, one of the most moving things I have read recently was in the November issue of Vanity Fair, an article by Christopher Hitchens called "A Death In The Family". If you want a gut wretching example of modern day heroism...by a whole family...this is as good as it gets. Fortunately you can catch it online at http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/feat ... hens200711 Heres to happier Veterans Days in the future... |

Yo Circus , Sometimes gone, but not forgotten ![]() Yea , we old time vets somehow have to remember all the other ones passed away, or cast aside--- like the 1500 Iraq-Afgan HOMELESS vets reported last week in the national press ![]() And we are wasting muchos billions of dollars on corrupt, not needed AID projects to supposedly "REBUILD- or RECONSTRUCT" Iraq. The country who has been in existence for more than 4,000 years without ANY help from UStupidos ![]() AND--- there are Puking Politicos in Congress ![]() ![]() Hey , the welfare mothers fare better than that ![]() Cygnus ![]() |

YO Fellows: Please leave you political finger pointing at the curbside. And yes, I have been guilty of of the same thing. I just wanted to share an experience that touched me very deeply and to pay homage to a man who gave his all to defend what so many take for granted. War is ugly, war is hell and whatever the reason mankind bestows that evil on itself....it is incorrigible. As a side note: There is not a country in this world that takes better care of and supports it's military more than the U.S. Unfortunately, we do a poor job compared to what these veterans deserve after active duty service. |
