New Year's Eve:

just curious: I've been traveling to San Jose for over a decade. Intentionally I have avoided major holidays. My theory being the less people in town the less people I have to share with. I have been there on fourth of July and for Super Bowl weekend. Fourth of July not that big of a thing Super Bowl weekend major event. I just made reservations to spend December 30 two January 13 at the Del Rey. Would like some input on what New Year's Eve would be like. I'm not a big party animal but I do enjoy watching my fellow travelers prove the theory of evolution.

Lee,
Where did you find a cheap flight? I would love to spend NYE with my girlfriend but I can't see myself paying $800-900, that's the price of 3 trips normally.

Lee,

I spent New Year's in San Jose this past year. Slim- pickins the whole time, and the New Years Eve itself was a complete sausage fest. Guys were irritable and horny and there was even a fight over a chica about 5am in the BM if memory serves correct. Best to have your chicas lined up in advance.

Was on the dancefloor with a chica at the KL when the clock struck...but it really wasn't much of a party... There were better places to go but I wasn't looking for anything else... so can't help you there.

Orange:

congratulations on immediately identifying the flaw in my plan: I said I made reservations at the Del Rey. Hotel reservations can be manipulated or canceled. I have made no flight reservations primarily because of price. I've been watching the three major airlines and the cheapest fare so for is $699. Yes that's too much but if I use some twisted logic and convince myself that since I'm going to be there two weeks it's like two trips. That would be about 350 a trip. A good price in my little fantasy world. Interesting thing about plane tickets is that first-class tickets never change. What ever dates I put in its $1300. I guess their logic is that if you're willing to give them $1300 they'll take you where ever you want to go on whatever day you want to go there. Oh by the way the $1300 is for Delta Airlines Continental is much more proud of their first-class and Chargers $1700.

Phoenix Rising:

exactly the kind of review of New Year's Eve in San Jose I was expecting: using some more of my twisted logic I figure a bad New Year's at the Del Rey is probably going to be better than the best New Year's Eve home alone. It has been my experience that holidays is not the best time to be in San Jose if the only thing you're after is girls. As odd as it may sound I can actually have a very pleasant day in and around the Hotel Del Rey without getting laid.

I plan on being there at the least till the 13th and maybe longer. With one exception every year for the past 11 years I have gone to San Jose on or about the sixth of January. And found the pickings to be very good. Again using some of my twisted logic that would give me a week to relax build up my strength than a week to nail every good-looking little thing that came in the door. Would not be the worst two weeks of my life.

Hey Lee I've spent a couple NYE in SJO and it's indeed slow on NYE after 9PM and on the 1st SJO is like a ghost town but recall things being back to normal after the 2nd. Just plan ahead and have some action lined up for the slow times and you will be the envy of all the lonely horny gringos standing around wondering what happened.

Hey Lee,

I spent several weeks in SJO Christmas & New Years at least three times since 1999. The last time was 04/05. The key to my success was having a special chica relationship for New Years Eve. I spent all three with the special chica with her family and in her barrio. The tica/ticos through a huge multiblock party at home with all the frivolity you can imagine.

From Karioke systems, to sisters banging their boyfriends before and immediately after midnight (to ensure continuation of the relationship from year to year), family members gathering to morn with tears the passing in the old year of a close family member.

I kicked in about $50.00 usd of chicken and another $50 usd for suds before arriving with my favorita to grease my way in. Lot's of booze, lots of food, lots of local flavor & fun. Once in the hood, as a gringo that speaks spanish, there were lot's of plays. Including many other families around the block introducing me to their eligible daughters. My favorita had to pull me out of several houses after being invited in by Mom and Dad to meet their eligible daughter virgin.

End of night about sunrise ,amanacer, back to Vista Linda and great sex with favorita.

I say go for it, but the party is in the hood and be prepared to go native.

I had the master suite in HDR last NYE. Had a great time partying on the balcony and watching the fireworks. Less chicas, but still had no problems pickin' up some hotties. Also less gringos ... works for me!

You have to remember that these girls are not workaholics. They will be with the family or friends on New Years Eve. I had several invite me to their fiestas last year. If you want company without being with their families, you may want to focus on girls from other countries that don't have family in CR.
Make arrangements in advance. But remember they like to have a good time so you might want to be willing to take them out somewhere to celebrate. Poorer people celebrate the new year in hopes of things to come.
We are happy to just sit around since we feel we already have everything.

Berkster, what can I say? I too have checked into the Hotel California Gulch SJO location and never left. Why? Lee and I agree there is not a valid reason to leave the mother ship. Having said that, on NYE, one night each year is the exception to the rule. Lee will get it. Besides, we end up returning later and enjoying the energy of Nirvana. Long live the HDR! Viva HDR! En HDR We Trust! We stop at the HDR! Over 1 Billion sold at the HDR!
