Thats pretty funny. When I was a K*D my family used to travel to Mexico quite a bit. Since I am blonde, the Mexicans were always patting me on the head which used to make me mad. They apparently thought that patting a blonde on the head would bring good luck.

I have never felt any hostility for being a gringo in all my Latin travels and even when dealing with hispanics in California. Deep down most Latins admire Americans and probably are more jealous, than anything.

True in general the educated latins for the most part do admire Americans, its the uneducated ones that are jealous that make up stories like that, they lose their girlfriend or whatever to a gringo and now they have an enlightened stance on the whole gringo thing to share with their family and freinds.... xenophobia always hits hardest on the ignorant.

Considering the fact that you DID get her, I guess her mom was right.
