Okay guys let us just start this thread out by saying that there is a very vocal group of CRT members feel that you should always take a taxi everywhere you go in San Jose at night. WE GET IT!!! There is no need to flood this thread with the exact same redundant advice. We all know that many of you think it is foolish and stupid, no sense repeating the same thing over and over again in this thread, please.

With that out of the way. Here is the premise of this thread:

#1) This thread is for specific information about bad areas in San Jose where CTR members have specific first hand accounts of crime after dark. No rumors or "I heard this or that" please.

#2) This is also a thread for those that have specific recommendations for moving around the city at night on foot.

Every city has its bad areas and San Jose is no exception.

#3) This is a place for documenting specific bad areas in San Jose that CRT members might find themselves in from time to time.

Thanks in advance for respecting a new approach to an old topic.

During the day on my last trip I walked from the SL to Bar Camelot and back to the BM and then on to the SL with no problem at all. I have walked from the SL to the BM around dusk by myself many times going by the park but not through it. I have walked from the SL to the BM with a wingman at night with no problems however most of the time I did take a cab and I was always looking WAY ahead and around me keeping track of my surroundings.

Cabs are cheap and safe YMMV

Personally I feel that the activity outside of the Del Rey is one of the most dangerous situations you can encounter. Those guys out there that want to be your friend are not your friends!!!! They are spotters and if you are drunk walking out of there you are asking for nothing but trouble.

I also avoid the path in front of the New York bar. I do not have any first hand accounts of my own. But I avoid it based on numerous first hand reports of others.

If you are in resort wear, wearing shorts or flip flops, it is best to take a cab. You will stick out like a sore thumb.

You can generally blend into the population by wearing long pants, comfortable walking shoes and neutral colored buttoned-up-the-front collared shirt.

Even though this topic is Image.... I'll comment.

Sure, many parts of SJ are not dangerous, day or night. However, dangerous shit can jump off anywhere, and the chance of it happening is greater at night. Plus, criminals seem to be more active at night, probably thinking they're less likely to be seen.

To me, taking a taxi everywhere at night is probably being overly cautious. In most instances, you can walk a short distance without a problem. But I'm in a foreign country where the authorities won't go out of their way to help me and where I'm already beginning the day with a bulls-eye on my back, so I'm going with safe over sorry.

Based on my viewing of CourtTV over the years, it may not matter if Simpson knew about the guns if it can be established that he went to that hotel room with the intent of forcibly taking property. The fact accomplishes chose to up the stakes could prove immaterial. For example if a guy drives a getaway car to rob a bank and the others kill someone, the driver is also charged with the murder though he came without any such intention. It`s complicated I`m sure and relates to statutes.

No offence, but please can this be considered the definitive comment for those with this point of view.

I respectfully request that this be the last "I would rather be safe than sorry I always take a cab" peace of advice in this thread please!!! That has been covered extensively in the first version of this thread that is currently active on the board. Every single thread on the topic gets overwhelmed with the same point of view.

Thanks Orange..... Peace Brother

KC,

you keep asking the same question in different formats and then ask for no one to repeat a valid point of view. I am not sure what you are after here? I think the other thread covered the various points of view to be had.

Bk...... I have noticed that "Just Take a Taxi" faction gets very aggressive in pushing their point of view in every thread on the subject on this board. They drown out every opposing view with comments about how "foolish" and "stupid" it is.

It would be nice if those of us that see it different had place to share information with out the pig pile approach the "take a taxi" people bring to every thread on the subject.

You guys are welcome to your point of view, but with all due respect this thread is probably not for you.

It would be nice if you guys could respect that. Thanks.

The Police themselves warned me about the area between the Castillo and the Park. I walked by in the early evening when they were investigating a crime on the hill between the park and the Castillo - they said it would be dark soon and the area was very dangerous.

I'm with BK-

I guess I also dont know what you're looking for or why it's particularly important either.

Not being a smart ass, just trying to figure out what the point is.

I stayed at the Castillo this weekend. I heard the report of the violence there over the weekend.

I have not been aware aware of there being as area where they have a lot of problems, but I will follow up with someone that lives near there and ask.

I do know that they have problems on the other side of the INS building (opposite the Castillio). On the side of INS facing the park, there are cash machines there and places to hide around that building. I notice the cops there a lot these days.

Just my take on this. It seems Kccostarica is a person who does not see the value of taking a taxi at night. I have no problem with that but then I also have no problem with the guys who say take a taxi from the HDR to the Morazan hotel. Everyone has their own comfort level. No amount of polls, no matter how you change the phraseology, is going to persuade one side or the other. To try and tell people do not post in this thread if you think ...... is not only an exercise in futility it defeats the purpose of a discussion board.

Thanks Drifter.

I take a taxi more than half the time. Thanks for your insights.

I have not asked anyone not to post, I have just asked that move the discussion to something other than the same old thing.

The "Just Take a Taxi" group belabor the exact same thing over and over.

If that is all that you have to add to the discussion then this thread is not of interest to you and there is no real reason to particpate except to drown out a point of view that you don't agree with.

This thread is for those of us that are interested sharing information about specific areas that may be dangerous in San Jose. Those that take a cab everywhere have no need for the information and have no reason to participate in this thread. If would be cool if you guys that are not interested in sharing this information could respect that.

So has this whole thread. Are you gonna keep reposting it until everybody agrees with you?

Keep walking at night, prove us all wrong.
