Some people seem to love bumping up their post counts with completely valueless verbal farts and silly one liners. There seems to have been an explosion of that sort of posting here as opposed to the truly informative stuff that originally brought me to CRT. If thats your thing post here. Or if you find those sorts of posts as inane as I do, vent your frustrations here. There is no need to pollute other threads with it or prolong threads which have served their original purpose.

BTW, I'm not referring to the humorous and highly creative stuff by the likes of Circus and others, but rather the one-line frathouse humor of a few others.

The problem is brother, the ranting about it just encourages the jackasses.

In fact your rant in the other thread did nothing but encourage exactly that.

If you look at my other posts they are usually pretty thoughtful.

I tried a creative approach to kill an unpleasant conversation. Sorry you were not able to accept it in the vain it was intended. So far, it has seemed to work...........

May I humbly suggest that you lighten up just a little. You and I are on the same side.

Prolijo,

Interesting… there’s an “explosion” of these types of posts lately, but you mention me specifically??? Well, since you’ve seen fit to name me SPECIFICALLY in your thread title, please allow me to respond.

First of all, let me start by saying - who do you think you are? Maybe you’re looking for the www.oprah.com forum. With a site of +/- 12,000 members, posting every type of comment under the sun, about every topic imaginable, and you decide to come at me personally, and call me out in your thread title? That’s fine, as this is an open forum, and you’re entitled to express your opinion(s). So please, let me express mine…

First of all, you are NOT the administrator / moderator of this site. The administrator that we have is more than capable of keeping a handle on this entire forum, and he proves this - day in and day out. He’s the one who monitors the board and every single post. He’s the one who puts out the fires. And he’s the one who keeps things going in the right direction, not you!

You said that nowadays, there’s apparently not enough “truly informative stuff that originally brought you to CRT” ??? I’m very sorry that there’s too much “locker room humor” and not enough informative stuff for you here. There’s thousands of other Costa Rica websites, with information on every possible aspect of Costa Rica. Maybe you’ve forgotten, but CRT is a gentlemen’s site for MONGERS!. And as much as it may bother you, many of us have become very good friends !!! If you need further assistance on “informative stuff” about Costa Rica, go to this website: www.google.com and type in COSTA RICA in the search line. I’m sure you’ll be able to find whatever “informative stuff” about CR that you obviously seek.

Second of all, who gives a phuck about post counts! Thanks Prolijo for bringing this thought-provoking subject up again!!! IMHO, post counts have been talked about ad-nauseum on this site, but here we go again...

- Do we get an award for post counts? NO!
- Is there any monetary value to post counts? NO!
- Do more posts mean that the person is smarter, better looking, more well travelled or hung like a bull? NO!

The post counter is a simple unit-of-measure, nothing else. Should we do away with post counts? I could give a sh*t either way! It means nothing to me.

Third of all, this is a site for like-minded GENTLEMEN. Next time you get a chance, look at the home page of this site.
- Nowhere does it say that this is a site for serious, stuffy, anal retentative guys that are ONLY looking for information on quantum physics.
- Nowhere does it say that ONLY factual, evidence-backed-data should be posted.
- Nowhere does it say that we shouldn’t be able to enjoy the site, along with the cameraderie amongst our friends.

I have made upwards of 40 trips to CR over the past few years.
I own multiple businesses in CR, and have been around the block a few times.
I have organized numerous events in CR for many different members.
I have helped many members, whether it’s on the board – or via PM’s, answering every question imaginable.
I have posted factual-evidence-backed information on the board, which affects everybody.
I have tried to welcome countless newbies to the forum, and steer them in the right direction.
I have had members stay in my condo’s (for free) in CR when they couldn’t get a hotel room anywhere.
I have helped members find professionals in CR to help them with business and/or legal transactions.
I have helped members financially, when they’ve gotten in a bind, and had nowhere to turn.
I’ve helped members open bank accounts in CR.
I’ve helped members save a ton of money on their trips.
I’ve helped members stay out of harm’s way.
…and on and on and on !!

Come to think of it… why the phuck am I even explaining this to you? Costa Rica is a very important part of my life. I don’t make monthly trips there, for the sole purpose of chasing latina tail. I am a business man. But I am proud to say that I have many friends in CR, and I am honored to have many friends on this board. Should I apologize for that?? Don’t think so!

Do I post “one-liners” on this forum? Absolutely!
Do I partake in some of the “frat-house humor” on this site? Absolutely!
Do I do it so I can “bump my post count” ? Gimme a phucking break!

Prolijo,
I have had the pleasure of reading many, many of your posts. Granted, they are usually long, but they are also usually very informative. I did not post this - with the sole purpose of offending you, but when you decided that you had a hard-on for me, and put my name in your thread title, I took offense to that.

Like some of the others mentioned… Lighten up. We’re all on the same team here.

Respectfully,
Mucho Gusto :?

Lol, easy guys

I am perfectly capable of screening posts by topic and user and reading what I want to read. Just because it is posted does not mean you have to read it. I certainly participate in the inside jokes and frat humor, but I also try to help with valuable info whenever possible. If Florida and others want to keep the Ball Shaving thread alive more power to them. It is the only thread I routinely do not read.

Both MG and Prolijo are two of the more helpful gentlemen on the board. I greatly value input from both of you.

MG,
I apologize to you if you felt my post was singling you out. That was NOT AT ALL my intention. I was referring to the DISCUSSION of your FARTS (mostly by others) and not you personally. I don't know where that subject was first raised on the board, but I'm willing to bet you weren't the one that first brought it up (I know I wouldn't be the first one to post about it on the board if someone wanted to make fun of my farts). Nor are you the ONLY one still throwing that particular "joke" around. So in no way did I think I was singling you out. If you thought I was picking on you in particular, I am genuinely sorry that offended you. Besides, the issue is much larger than that particular joke. It was just one example.

Maybe I do need to lighten up a bit. Anyone who has met me will tell you I can actually joke around as much as or even more than the next guy. I also agree that the camraderie fostered by this board is one the best things about it. But lets put this in some context. What elicited this thread was twofold. First, perhaps its a sign that the type of so-called "locker-room humor", that has grown so widespread on this board, may have gotten a litle too far out of hand when incidents like what elicited the deleted thread take place. But at least that problem initially started out OFF the board. The second thing that prompted my post, was the banter going back and forth (and thus keeping the thread alive) on a thread that most of us wanted to see die an ignoble death. Incidentally, the only reason I "singled you out" (as well as QuickBlueFox) was because those just happened to be the off-topic jokes that were playing out in that thread. Anyway, what I'm saying in sum is a) lets no get too crazy and b) there is a time and a place for everything - including sometimes joking around and sometimes being more serious.

I have absolutely no problem with some lighthearted humor going back and forth on threads that were set forth for that purposes. For example, one would have to expect a lot of joking on a thread entitled "Ball shaving: consummate skill or reckless endangerment". Heck, on occasions I'll even add my own poke to such threads. Where I think it becomes less appropriate and even a bit distracting is on other threads where the original post was much more serious in intent and/or trying to get information. Even there, if someone throws in a little joke, its not the worst thing in the world. But we now get threads where we begin to get literally pages and pages of that stuff going on and on as everyone wants to add their little twist and then retort and pretty soon everyone forgets what the original post was even about.

IMHO, a thread that was dealing with the deleting of another thread is not a thread to prolong un-necessarily. The Admin didn't want the first thread extended. Do you think he wants the one explaining his actions extended either? Does it really require that everyone adds his opinion commending or condemning him for his actions? And however it may have been intended is changing the subject really any more effective way of making the thread "go away" or should people just start posting on a different thread (like we're doing here)? As always, you're all free to disagree, but thats my own 2 cents.

BTW, MG, I commend you on the length of your last post.

Guys, I was just trying to distract the topic of conversation with some stupid humor. I ignored the thread for a while, but it seemed to be taking on a life of its own. It was a light-hearted experiment on my part, it failed, sorry if I caused anyone any distress.

Regardless of perceptions to the contrary, I did what I did with intentions of being a good citizen on the board.

The last thing I thought was that my stupid jokes would cause anyone any distress.

I do sympathize with those that would prefer the topic to just go away.

And to think I actually wanted to meet ZIPPY

Kc, Nice diversion tactic on a ridiculous topic, I had hoped it would move this in another direction 8) Which it has, albeit one with some negativity.

Prolijo, you have been a long time respected member of this board. I have been the recipient of your wisdom. But you should know that when the "novella" starts here it's harder than a SoCal fire to put out. The original topic was and is for all purposes dead, thankfully.

Since I have taken so long to single peck this, Prolijo has responded and perhaps better explained his position, and I think it's time......
We start talking about Pooosssiiie

Prolijo,
I have always considered you a gentleman, and your rebuttal / response to my post proves this. Thank you!

The main and most obvious reason I felt that you were singling me out, was because YOU USED MY NAME IN YOUR THREAD TITLE!

As far as the “fart” thing, I have no idea how I got involved in that subject, but it’s all good! If I remember correctly, it was started by the CRT member (with an incredibly small schlong), KCCostaRica !!!! (oops, did I say that out loud )?!?!? :P And I was not offended by his remark. I just feel kinda bad for him, because I know he has a difficult time pleasing the chica's with that little thing! :P Damn it! There I go again with the Locker Room banter! (j/k KC)!

And in regards to the length of my post? Many moons ago, I was a Systems Analyst / Programmer with a Fortune 500 Company. Speed, accuracy and efficiency on the keyboard was paramount. My typing speed and accuracy has only increased over the years. And if someone gets me going on a particular subject, I’ll burn up this keyboard!

Thanks again for your response. No harm, no foul!

Mucho Gusto :D

KC,
No distress. More like mild irritation. No fears. I'll get over it. I was just venting for the moment. I understand and appreciate what you were trying to do even though my own approach would be very different. I certainly have no hard feelings toward you or MG or anyone else here and hope the feeling is mutual. We all just have different styles. Believe me, I know my own style is not for everyone! However, I hope I raised some good points that will make some people think when and where a particular type of post is most appropriate.

BTW, its interesting to see how evenly divided the poll results are so far. Believe it or not, I actually voted in the middle.

BTBTW, I have no idea why some people make so many posts. I only meant to suggest bumping up post counts as one possible explanation. Well, except in the case of Blue Devil. Personally, I like Zippy's idea. I'm almost embarassed by my own post count. It only proves I need to get a life.
