Post subject:  ICE chip for sale.

One of my regulars wants to sell her extra chip. I do not want to make anything nor do I guarantee anything except that if anyone has an interest, I will put you in contact with her.
She is not out to rip anyone. In fact, last month when she needed to move, I prepaid for a session. I wanted her to come to me at 8:30 this morning (had to leave at 10:00 for SJO) and she was there at 8:15.
PM me if interested.

6 guys showed interest but no offers so I'm going to tell her "sorry.....I tried."
I'm very surprised as I could not imagine not having a cell phone in CR.

Be cautious with this one. First of all she can cancel the line anytime she wants. Secondly she has to go ICE to deal with any issues or changes to the line(like the ability to make or recieve international calls.)

And thirdly they are about 3 months behind in the bill for my phone . I paid my bill the other day and it was for June. So this line probably has 3 months charges on it.

The deposit for the line is 25$ and I am sure she would at least want that upfront.

ICE says in jan it will have 300,000 new lines.

Plus you need an unlocked GSM cell phone with the right frequency. If the phone is a triband you should be alright.

Sounds tempting, as there are no lines available right now. However, Zman is right. She probably has a big past due balance, which is why she wants to sell it. She can also shut it off at anytime, or worse, report it stolen.

The 300k lines are already spoken for. My guess is that those lines will be gone by end of Feb next year.

I'm looking for this for a friend who lives in CR. I would assume that any bill for time used BEFORE the transaction takes place would be paid by the girl. I would make that part of the sale arrangement.

Unlocked GSM is the least of my issues, I've got about 6 of them.

While the phone lines will go quickly it is highly speculative to come up with a date. More importantly where did you get the information that the lines are already spoken for? ICE has had waiting lists every time they are waiting for new lines to become available but they never have approached 300,000 or anything close to that number.

I didn't mean that all the lines are allocated. I just meant that by the time some of us got there, they'll be gone. It was conjecture that I don't think that the lines will last past end of Feb...

I'm just guessing that the lines at ICE will be so long, and the demand so high, that I doubt that people like me will be able to get a line.

I'd love to be proven wrong, but it's still a guess...

Realistically my guess is that lines will ACTUALLY still be around maybe as late as MAY, but who knows.

This is going to sound harsh, because the written word has no way to be softened, but is meant as a general comment not aimed at you specifically.

As long as there are Costa Ricans and residents who are waiting for a cell phone line I really am not concerned that the occasional visitor is unable to get a cell phone line. For every phone line being held by the occasional visitor there is a Costa Rican who can not get a line. There is always the option of renting one for the length of your stay but for the average Costa Rican that is not a viable option. The rental market is geared to short term rentals to visitors not for the long term.

And before anyone asks....yes I have a cell phone so I am not waiting to get one of the new lines.

I will PM her # to anyone who wants it. As I said before, I don't think she is looking to rip anyone. She just wants to get a new phone for herself that has a media card for music & videos.

OBTW, I sent her name & # to everyone who expressed any interest.
She knows me as Jeffrey not Scubabum.

OMG ID... If I took offense to that, I'd take offense to anything...

I personally think that the whole govt monopoly of the phone systems is ABSOLUTELY insane.

I PERSONALLY don't want the line, it's for a resident friend. I use my Gatemalan cell phone in CR, and it is quite inexpensive to make calls, and while I'm in town, people can call me at my hotel, or wait for me to call them.

I WOULD LIKE a number for myself, but I have resigned myself to living with my Guatemalan #.

The rental market is a COMPLETE rip off, and I would rather pay EXHORBITANT roaming rates with my UK cell phone (yeah, I have one of those too) than rent a phone from one of those places.
