For those of you who have been to both- give me a little comparison.

I have been to Thailand multiple times and lived there for 6 months.

In terms of girls, general expenses and typical regular tourism- how does CR compare?

At first glance *everything* seems more expensive to me. True? Not true?

Thanks in advance!

Pfft! No fun!

Xman's descriptions are the best. The way he can switch between English, Thai, and Spanish all in one sentence to get his point across are classic.

I can't wait to see him in January in the LOS. I have a bad feeling my liver will be hurting for a few days. :D

Welcome to CRT Dean :D …

Somebody has to reply to this…so with 42 days until wheels up to Pattaya I will give you a short version…

First off… this is discussed in a thread by Samcat1 in the VIP section and I believe I addressed it in my Pattaya trip report in the “Trip Reports from around the World” section.
https://costaricaticas.com/phpBB2/vi ... highlight=

But that’s probably more reading then it’s worth  …

If you are serious about going to CR, spend the $39 on a VIP membership, the info and pictures make it worthwhile and the discount you will get in CR will pay for it.

Secondly… Xman (now known under a new handle…) is our resident Pattaya expert… about four months in Pattaya this year and he just returned this past week for another 90 days or so :D … if you are currently in LOS, PM me and I will see if I can put the two of you in contact, X willing.

OK… If you are in the States right now I will put it this way… CR is a GREAT long weekend trip!!!! If you have a week or more go to SEA or Rio. CR is more expensive than LOS in every way…but still much cheaper and better than here in the good old US of A… the big differences are 1) flight time 7hrs west coast vs 20 hrs, 3-5 hrs east coast vs 24+ hrs… 2) scope of it…Pattaya is a whole city dedicated to adult entertainment, San Jose has a handful of good places. 3) Latinas vs Asians… ummm, to each their own… Asians will take great care of you without much attitude, Latina’s are hotter in bed but have some attitude… BUT as always… YMMV!!!!! IT'S ALL GOOD!
:D :!: :D
That’s just a short version and comparison… but if you are in the US you should deffinatly take some of the great info from this board and spend some time in CR… and as far as ‘tourist” things to do…what’s that?... ok…both are equal and have some great things to see.

And last but not least… one of the best reasons to make a trip to CR is to meet up with some of the like minded gentlemen on this board… always someone to have a beer with and/or “watch your back”. For that matter the guys that I hang with in Pattaya are CRT guys…

Please provide more details or examples. Controlling for airfare and flight time, please provide some instruction. I found CR to be extremely reasonable in price, and now desire to travel to LOS to engage in more intercultural research. :) Also, tell me if there is a significant difference between Bangkok and Pattaya.

We are in the wrong CRT forum with this discussion... before Admin1 moves this whole thread, do a search on Pattaya amd Bangkok in our "Trip Reports & Information from around the world" section and you will find all of your of your questions discussed in several threads.

If you still have questions after that, post a thread in the "world section" and you will get many more responses.

No flame intended,

Mendo

Simply put Thailand is 100x better then anything Costa Rica can offer.

- Cost for girls is much much much cheaper. You can have TLN's for less then what you could pull a mediocre girl in the Blue Marlin for 1 hour.

- Monger friendly hotels are everywhere. In fact, Ive never seen any hotel that doesnt allow you to bring guests back.

- No walk of shame. Thai society openly accepts prostitution, you can go anywhere with your "date", do anything, and you will never be given a hard time or looked down upon.

- Hotels are much much cheaper. 20-30$ for nice places, some with pools, all excellent location.

- Safer. You can walk basically anywhere in Pattaya at any time of the night, and not have to worry about much. Your biggest fear is checking out a tranny  In Bangkok, a few more precautions must be taken, but not anything like you would in San Jose.

- Transportation. Moto's, Taxi's, Baht Bus's are everywhere to take you anywhere. Almost impossible to get ripped off on one unless you do it to yourself. Unlike taxi's in San Jose where they play the whole, 3000c for a 500c trip, or I dont have change routine.

- Location location location. Waking up and having a buzzing beach town all around you never gets old. And Bangkok as a city is amazing. San Jose is a dump, and Jaco doesnt dent what Pattaya is.

IMO, I think CR is better than LOS. I lived/worked in SEA for 4 years. Really did not start going to LOS till my last year on that side of the globe. Then made two trips after returning stateside. CR has a better culture, by far. I don't know what people are referring to by "walk of shame". There is not one in CR, LOS, Tijuana, Bali, or any other mongering destination I have been to.

CR and Central/Latin American have a more understandable and accepting culture. You will never be a complete equal anywhere in SEA, especially LOS. Not if you become an expert in the language, food and culture.Farang is farang. What most LOS regulars mistake for genuine equality and fair treatment is a carefully painted illusion all in the name of face. The Latin American culture is more heart on the sleeve type. Thai's bottle thier true emotions in public. Latinos go for broke irregardless of who's watching.
The mongering game is on a much larger scale in LOS, for sure. But do you want Thai or Thai? LOS is like going to a one course buffet. Some people never get tired of the chicken, but I sure do. CR is a great deal of variety wrapped around a relatively easy language to learn. In the course of my work overseas I learned Bahasa (Indonesia) and Mandarin (China).
Plus a little Thai. If I had known more about CR I would have just studied Spanish and my espanol would be higher than the 60% level I am at now.

LOS is still worth a visit, but there are better destinations. How people can get so addicted to it is completely beyond me. Is a great place to lose a few pounds, though. The food is genuinely terrible. After 4 years without a decent meal, I lost over 45 pounds.

Funny! Jmac and MrLV's opinions couldn't be more opposite.

I'm with Jmac though coz I'm cheap and I like TLN which I just don't want to afford in CR. I'm more into the RP though - they speak English so at least we can talk to each other.

Oh, and I'm on the west coast so getting to the RP is actually faster than getting to CR for me coz I can't find a cheap direct flight to CR from here. All the connecting flights seem to have a lot of hours between planes. RP, I'm on the same plane all the way.....

You can't afford $100 for a tln? That is the most I paid in any mongering destination. My two tlns were on the house this last CR trip.

Well thats great. You know the going rates in CR, so why would you even bring that up.

I think most of us can claim to have a freebie somewhere on one of our trips, still doesnt change the going rate of ST/LT

100 dollars for TLN in CR? Oh, please, unless a lot has changed, TLN in CR is at least 150 with anyone you'd want to wake up with the next morning. Considering they push for the cien right from the start for just an hour, I'm not sure how in CR they would agree to a TLN for 100.

I can get TLN in the RP for 60 easily and she is not butt ugly.... happy and proud to eat breakfast with her.

To clarify, the cien was the mp ticas suggested rate. My wingman had several tln's this last trip at that rate. If you are paying more than $60 for a good 1.5 hour session with a Blue Marlin/ Key Largo tica, that is your choice. But I don't understand it.
