It was repeorted this morning in a letter to the editor on page 2 of www.amcostarica.com that there was NO water all day Saturday or Sunday, and significant power outages this past Holiday weekend in Jaco. Residents have long complained about the lack of reliable services there especially with the recent enormas expansion of construction of condo projects.

Unfortunately for all those unsuspecting gringo, who do not do due diligence, and are victims to slick brochures and slicker salesman and buy into these new projects they are unaware of the problems.

The infrastructure of Jaco, police & fire protection, road capacity, waste disposal, sanitary landfill availability as well as the previously mentioned water and electricity problems are simply inadequate to accommodate even half of the projects proposed and there are no long term solutions on the drawing board.

Jaco and eventually other pacific coast areas are disasters waiting to happen.

Florida,
Those of us who live in hurricane alley (the state of Florida) are no strangers to being without power. But you can't honestly say that you enjoy it! If you do, then you're a bigger man than I.

For Crissakes, in 2004, damn near the whole state of Florida was without power, some areas for as long as 26 days. I went without power for 8 days after Hurricane Francis, and 9 days after Hurricane Jeanne. Even though I have a pool with 24,000 gallons of fresh water, plus a 1,000 pound ice maker (that was full), 2 generators, and gas for cooking, IT STILL SUCKED! And it had nothing to do with "being a man"! Plus, that hurricane season was NOTHING compared to what Hurricane Andrew did to S. Florida in 1992. Just ask Sparkchaser69. He didn't wash his ass for a month !!! :P

Being without power (with 95+ degree temperatures) sucks, whether it's for an hour, a day or a week! I'm not a big Jaco fan, but I certainly don't envy those who were in town last weekend without power.

Mucho Gusto

MG,

I do not think he was saying he enjoyed it  I lived is South Dade county in August of 92 when Andrew roared in. Did I enjoy the destruction, the no food, no water, no electricity? Of course not.

I think what Florida was pointing out that while it was not a pleasant weekend in Jaco, and certaintly not a way to spend some vacation time it was not a catastrophic event.

I understand what Florida was saying. And I'm glad that he used emoticons to express his statement! All I was saying, was that being without power for any length of time, especially in extreme temperatures, is not fun.

The outage in Jaco this past weekend was not catastrophic to us, but ask someone who saved their money for an entire year, to take their family on a nice vacation in Central America, and then this happens. I'm sure there were a lot of hot, sweaty and pissed off tourists on the coast last weekend!

And as far as the chica's that work the Monkey Bar, Beatle Bar, etc ???? Imagine being their 4th or 5th client of the weekend, without them being able to shower in between "boyfriends" ??? Better yet, think about all the mongers, who couldn't shower. Then they go to the local watering hole, and negotiate a nice, long, sloppy BBBJ, with a little salad tossing on the side! Oh man, it must've been ugly!! :!:

That is why Florida pointed out that there is a big ocean and pools in Jaco. Mongers and "working girls" always find a way to take care of business

Believe me, it has been a pain in the ass. Hopefully, the TLC will pass and we will get companies in Costa Rica that can handle electricity and water. If ICE is the only hope for the future development of Costa Rica, then it is time to move to Panama. I'm starting to think about it. All my friends that regularly go down there tell me it is a real country, with real infrastructure and not a banana republic that bumbles everything it sticks its hands in. Ok, in a grumpy mood over our lack of services here. Just my two cents worth.
