Is there any good places to take surfing lessons in CR? Or is better off that you learn prior to going to the waves down there so that way you don't waste your time, energy, and money of riding the world's best waves?

I've thought a lot about the chicks down there :D however, I'd like to do the surfing thing too - then I've got a legit reason with other people that I'm not labeled as some kind of oddity.

Anyone know where the best places down there?

Jaco is the best place to learn to surf in CR, probably the world. I learned last November and go every few weeks. I just got back yesterday. Stayed at the Best Western

The best place to get lessons is WOW Surf. It is pretty cheap. Boards are 20 bucks at day. The guys speak English and know their stuff.
Make sure they take you at High Tide.

The best place to Learn (surf spot)in Jaco is Calle Madrigal which is where most of the teaches take their students.

Once you learn, you can have a taxi take you to Calle Madrigal. There is a little market that is close and they will call a cab to pick you up.


More advanced surf spots are Playa Hermosa and directly in front of the Bohia Bar. You can go and watch and see how good the guys are.

I surfed to the right of the Best Western last weekend and it was fine.

Also, ROKA LOKA surf shop has good teachers that speak English. They are cheaper than WOW. Their boards are crappy.

Best Boards are across the street from ROKA LOKA at Walters. The service is pretty lame however.

BTW, you can surf the Olas by day and the Chicas by night. Pretty hard to hate.

Heck, take one surfing.
