I’ve had a couple of request to let everyone know about three very common SPAM emails going around attempting to install malware (virus or spyware) on PCs.
The first one is a Postcard Virus. It reads, "You have just received a virtual postcard from a family member!" It then states, "you can pick up your postcard by clicking on the web address." Stop there! This one installs a Trojan virus that allows someone to take over your computer.
The second one contains an attached Adobe PDF file. This file delivers a Trojan virus that is used to mine information from the user and may also be used for attacking other computers by mass mailing itself.
The third poses as a Microsoft Security Bulletin Critical Update. This email asks the user to click an embedded link to install this needed Update. For the record, Microsoft has officially stated that they will never deliver any security updates in this fashion. All Critical Updates from Microsoft will always be available from Microsoft.com.
